Cle de Peau Fall 2014: Radiant Fluid Foundation and Lipstick #111...a Glowing Review

$

Above: The Cle de Peau Radiant Fluid Foundation is the quintessential balance of a glowing and soft matte finish.
When I heard that Cle de Peau was releasing a new foundation formula as part of its Fall 2014 Collection, I could hardly contain my excitement.  I already adore the Cle de Peau Cream Foundation (reviewed HERE) and was interested in how a liquid base would perform on my skin.  Generally, fluid foundations that purport radiance tend to not offer as much coverage as I prefer (somewhere in the vicinity of medium, buildable to full), however, when the first time I applied the Cle de Peau Radiant Fluid Foundation (available at Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom and Barney's NY), I was utterly astounded at the flawless finish it imparts!

According to Cle de Peau, this formula is both moisturizing and long-lasting with subtle illumination properties.  It contains:
  • NEW Micro Facets Technology, which allows light to be diffused from different angles.
  • NEW Day Matching Powder to prevent and regulate shine throughout the day.
  • Illuminating Complex to promote moisture stablization, reduce cellular stress, regulate cell turnover and improve the skin's barrier function.

Kindly scroll on for more details, comparison swatches, a closeup of the new CdP LE Extra Rich Lipstick in #111, a CdP beauty look and the Bottom Line...

Above: The full ingredients list.
Since I already discussed my positive feelings about this formulation HERE, I will attempt to be succinct and focus on some clear characteristics of the foundation in terms of texture/coverage,finish, wear and overall impressions:

TEXTURE/COVERAGE:
  • This formula is incredibly light yet pigmented.  It feels silky but not overly emollient and glides over the skin with ease.
  • Two pumps cover my entire face (I prefer to apply with a damp Beauty Blender).  The remarkable coverage is surprising, likely because the formula feels so light.
FINISH:
  • Even though this formula contains the word "radiant" in its title, it is not overly glowy.  In fact, it dries down with a soft matte finish and the radiance develops over the course of wear.
  • Although the radiance increases over time, it never crosses the line to shimmery or greasy.  It is just a soft glow that looks like healthy, well-moisturized skin.
WEAR:
  • I get a good 6-8 hours of wear time before feeling the need to blot or touch up with a bit of powder.
  • For a "radiant" foundation, the lasting power is unprecedented!
OVERALL IMPRESSIONS:
  • I am completely pleased with this formula...it truly does diffuse light on the face in a flattering, nearly magical way while still keeping unwanted oil at bay.
  • After a month of trial, I can confirm that it has not in any way irritated my sensitive skin!
  • This is a befitting option for one seeking medium (buildable to full) coverage, a slightly radiant finish and extremely respectable lasting power.

Above: Cle de Peau Extra Rich Lipstick in #111 Gavno.
Onto the lipstick!  I first spied the limited edition CdP Extra Rich Lipsticks (available at Neiman MarcusNordstrom and Sakswhile shopping with Sabrina of The Beauty Look Book...we both did some casual swatching and, within seconds, I knew that #111 Gavno had to be mine.

Above: The display that started it all.
This shade is a must for pink and peach lovers...the harmony of both tones, suspended in a plush, hydrating, shiny formula that builds to medium opacity is simply scrumptious. It is dark enough to add some color to the face but pale enough to not compete with other cosmetics in use...truly magnificent for those who adore a lighter lip.

Since the Cle de Peau Radiant Fluid Foundation and Fall 2014 Lipstick in #111 have been staples for me this summer, I opted to close this post with a look featuring key CdP products on heavy rotation! They include:

Bottom Line: The Cle de Peau Radiant Fluid Foundation (available at Neiman MarcusNordstrom and Barney's NY) ) is superb.  When my summer tan fades, I will likely transition from O30 to my usual O20 shade and am confident that this lovely, glowing formula will remain in my top five foundation rotation for months to come.  Additionally, the lipstick #111 (available at Neiman MarcusNordstrom and Saks) is the perfect, glimmering hybrid of peach and pink...such a tender delight. I have been beyond enchanted with all of the Cle de Peau Fall/Winter products thus far and will continue to highlight their gorgeous and wearable nature in future blog posts...highly recommended!

Good things ahead on BP including a skincare update, more foundation reviews and my latest discoveries.  Hope your weekend is lovely!

I've had the pleasure of using the new By Terry Baume de Rose Nutri-Couleur in #01 Rosy Babe for the last couple of weeks.  My love of the original formula has been professed time and again and I had high hopes for this flushed version.  I am pleased to confirm that it is as marvelous as I expected it to be...insanely moisturizing, long lasting and, now, infused with sheer, ultra-flattering color, this is luxury tinted lip balm at its absolute best!

Kindly scroll on for more Baume de Rose Nutri-Couleur details and swatches as well as a "clean, French-inspired beauty look" featuring a pared-down selection of products AND the Bottom Line...

Official details, courtesy of Space NK:

The much-loved lip balm has now been given the Rose Infernale full-colour treatment. This eye-popping palette ranges from chic and cheerful to innocent hushed hues and whimsical high-drama.
The ever-luxurious formula pampers and soothes with softening rose flower essential wax, lipo-regenerating shea butter, free radical fighting vitamin E, restructuring ceramides, hydrating and smoothing filling spheres. Lips will lap up this deep-down long-lasting cure.

The newly-released Baume de Rose Nutri-Couleur boasts three shades:
  • #1 Rosy Babe...a soft, baby pink
  • #2 Mandarina Pulp...a bright coral orange
  • #3 Cherry Bomb...a gorgeous red-meets-fuchsia
Since the three shades are sheer, the colors (though they may appear quite bright in the pot) are entirely wearable and compliment the natural lip tone.  All forms of shimmer are delightfully absent from the formula, enabling a lovely, natural finish that is drenched with pure shine.

Recently, one of my readers requested a "traditional no makeup French look" involving light base, bronzed skin, a touch of mascara and a lip balm...I decided that, in light of my focus on the By Terry Baume de Rose in Rosy Babe, this post was the perfect time to experiment with this aesthetic.

Scroll on for the product breakdown and look...

Above: Loving my experience thus far with this rich, ultra-natural, highly-effective formula!
The Only Products Used:
  • Dr. Macrene Skin Results 37 Extreme Actives Anti-Aging Cream: I have been experimenting with this skincare for the past few days and am boundlessly intrigued by the whipped texture and "one product serves all purposes" philosophy.  I feel like it's made my skin smoother and brighter and very balanced feeling; I will continue to test it and weigh back in after a few weeks!
  • Le Metier de Beaute Peau Vierge #2 as a primer: My daily non-negotiable.  May this never be discontinued.
  • Tom Ford Traceless Perfecting Foundation in #5 Natural (buffed on with a damp Beauty Blender): Still loving this for warm days due to its flawless coverage and extreme lasting power.
  • Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Killer Cheekbones Bronze + Glow (as a contour, bronzer + highlighter): Reviewed HERE, this is a staple in the sculpting category...so worth the investment. Available at Nordstrom, Net-A-Porter and Selfridges.
  • Surratt Beauty Artistique Blushes in Duchesse, Parfait and Se Pomponner in the Large Compact (lightly swirled together and applied to apples of the cheeks): New to my Surratt Beauty collection, I am adoring this trio of blushes (also swatched HERE) of varying degrees of peach and pink intensity.  Worn separately or together, the shades and finish are exquisite.
  • Surratt Beauty Expressioniste Brow Pencil in Brunette: When I desire a lush, more defined brow than my trusty By Terry Eyebrow Mascara creates, this delicate, ash brown retractable pencil is the unequivocal answer.  It fills brows beautifully (while still looking wholly natural) and stays in place until removed.  Yet another winner from the Surratt Beauty line!
  • Charlotte Tilbury Full Fat Lashes Mascara: Still in the testing phase with this formula, but initial impressions confirm that the mascara is extremely black (yes!) and builds volume and length adeptly.  No smudging or flaking, even after over 7 hours of wear.  Full review soon.  Available at Selfridges and in Net-a-Porter's Golden Goddess and Bigger Brighter Eyes sets.
  • By Terry Baume de Rose Nutri-Couleur Rosy Babe #1 alone on the lips: This subtle baby pink has just enough color to look like something on the lips; couple this confectionary shade with the luxurious performance of Baume de Rose and it's already inherent appeal is doubled.  Magnifique! Available at Space NK, Barney's NY and B-Glowing.

Bottom Line: I am so glad I decided to pick up the By Terry Baume de Rose Nutri-Couleur in Rosy Babe (available at Space NKBarney's NY and B-Glowing); the delicate pink is pure delight to wear and the rich, hydrating formula performs just as well as the original clear version (which I adore with equal vehemence).  This formula is an excellent choice for those seeking a moisturizing lip treatment with an ultra-flattering, lightly-flushed color tint that is both subtle and sophsiticated.  I hope you enjoyed this review and the subsequent "French-inspired look." I had a ball experimenting with an ultra-pared down approach ; )

Have a beautiful Monday...good things ahead on BP, including another foundation review, a new fragrance profile and the draw for the Rouge Bunny Rouge Raw Garden in Chronos Palette Giveaway!

Byredo Black Saffron...Intoxicatingly Unconventional

byredo black saffron
Above: Byredo Black Saffron: dark, mysterious, sweet, smoky and wearable...the quintessence of unconventional.
Concerning fragrances, I love (1) unexpected scents that are (2) still pleasing to the nose and (3) suitable for daily wear.  Although this trifecta should be the embodiment of most fragrances, it, in reality, is quite difficult to find.  There are the scents that are unexpected but not pleasing to the nose (for me, the cult favorite Guerlain L'Heure Bleue...I own it and want to wear it but I can't).  Then there are fragrances that are pleasing to the nose but not suitable for daily wear (Prada Amber...love it but it's too overpowering for a Monday-Friday lifestyle).  Finally there are those that are suitable for daily wear but are so mainstream that they begin to lack a uniqueness that piques interest (for example, Chanel Coco Mademoiselle...it's business friendly and great for tight quarters but four people around you might be wearing it, too).

Byredo Black Saffron, however, magnificently manages to be unique yet warable and I cannot stop from sniffing my wrist when I wear it...for me, it manifests a winning combination that stirs both an air of mystery and contentment.  It is smoky, sweet, slightly fruity and truly unique...in three words:  I adore it
Kindly scroll on for more details, images and the Bottom Line...

Above: The three travel sprays contain 12ml each and the trio retails for $110.
Here are the official details, courtesy of Neiman Marcus...

BYREDO BLACK SAFFRON:

An oriental composition that opens with the bright citrus note of Asian pomelo and crisp juniper berries, mellowed into a golden sillage by Kashmiri saffron. At the heart lies black violet fused with a leather accord, their dark, dry composition born aloft by the delicate transparency of cristal rose. At the base, blond woods add radiant warmth and harmony, punctuated by flashes of luscious raspberry. The journey concludes with gentle, earthy vetiver. The 12 mL eau de parfum vials are created to fit in the Byredo leather travel case (sold separately).

INGREDIENTS:

Top: Pomelo, saffron, juniper berry
Heart: Black violet, accord cuir, cristal rose
Base: Blond woods, raspberry, vetiver

About Byredo Fragrances:

Based in Stockholm, Sweden, Byredo was founded by painter-turned-creative-director Ben Gorham in 2006. Partnering with perfumers Olivia Giacobetti and Jerome Epinette, Gorham's scents are inspired by distinct places (such as Palermo, Italy), moments in time (think 1920s excess and avant-gardism), and works of art (for example, a photograph taken by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin), as well as memories and personal experiences. Gorham—born in Sweden to a Canadian father and Indian mother, raised between Stockholm, Toronto, and New York—leverages his global background as a beauty industry 'outsider.' The Byredo difference? A preference for uncluttered notes and a dedication to quality craftsmanship. In addition to fragrances—perfumes, colognes, and roll-on oils—Byredo offerings include personal care items such as bar soaps, body creams, lotions, and travel cases, plus scented candles for the home.

byredo black saffron
Above: Perfect for the purse.
Bottom Line: Byredo Black Saffron is utterly intoxicating (this coming from a girl that doesn't even drink!).  The unconventional, mysterious, smoky-sweet sillage of this juice places it in the "intriguing yet still appropriate for daily wear" category and, much like Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille, I do not tire of its incredible olfactory effect.  The leather travel case is both visually stunning and genius for one who likes to keep her fragrance near (as I do)...this is likely to be a permanent fixture in my handbag.  I cannot recommend this perfume enough, especially if your tastes gravitate towards the musky, sweet, smoky, slightly fruity and unique, I implore you to, at minimum, procure a sample!

Have YOU tried Byredo Black Saffron or another fragrance from the Byredo line?  Thoughts?

Good things ahead on BP including the drawing for the RBR Palette, TWO new foundations + swatches to discuss and a preview of some incredible new releases from Koh Gen Do...and that's just for starters ; )

Hope your week is going well thus far...xx,

YSL Fusion Ink Foundation (Swatches of Every Shade!) + NARS Audacious Lipstick in Raquel...In Short, I Adore Both

$

Above: The YSL Fusion Ink Foundation has arrived!
After a couple of weeks of trial, I am ready to weigh in on recently-released the YSL Fusion Ink Foundation (currently available at Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, Sephora, Bloomingdales, Bergdorf Goodman, Saks and Selfridges).  I initially discussed my first impressions in THIS video, have mentioned in my latest article for the Neiman Marcus publication, the blog, and now am excited to offer my review as well as swatches of EVERY shade offering.

Kindly scroll on for more details, swatches of each shade, shade descriptions, a discussion of my new favorite NARS Audacious Lipstick, Raquel and images of the YSL Fusion Ink + NARS Raquel on the face as well as the Bottom Line...
Above: The YSL Fusion Ink is housed in a square glass bottle with a wand applicator.
To concisely communicate my feelings on this formula, I will focus on some clear characteristics of the foundation in terms of texture/coverage, finish, wear and overall impressions:

TEXTURE/COVERAGE:
  • This formula is incredibly light...it reminds me a lot of the Giorgio Armani Maestro (reviewed HERE) but offers significantly more coverage (medium, buildable to full) and performs more like the Cle de Peau Radiant Fluid.
  • Four strokes of the wand on the top of my hand provides my entire face (I prefer to apply with a damp Beauty Blender) with medium coverage.
FINISH:
  • The finish is truly beautiful...a soft matte finish that adopts a bit of glow over time without defaulting to oiliness.
  • It blurs imperfections, diffuses light and perfects the canvas without utilizing any obvious light-reflecting properties.
  • I love the way it truly "fuses" with the skin...if you can find your shade match, you will likely experience flawless results.
WEAR:
  • I get a good 8+ hours of wear time before feeling the need to blot or touch up with a bit of powder.
  • No pooling into pores, no creasing, no migrating...it might transfer to a cell phone screen (but what doesn't?) but I would deem it decently adherent to the skin.
  • The first time I wore this foundation, I attended a wedding on a very hot day; this formula withstood heat, humidity, eating, dancing and late hours like a champ.  I only added a touch of powder about 8 hours into my day and noticed that it photographed beautifully, even after an extended period of wear.
OVERALL IMPRESSIONS:
  • I am very impressed with this formula...it is currently in my top three foundaiton rotation (along with the Tom Ford Traceless Perfecting and Cle de Peau Radiant Fluid) and I will likely move from B-40 Sand (the perfect match for my current N/NC 27-30 skin) to B-30Almond when my summer tan fades.
  • The shade range is great...three different undertones (BR=Rosy, B=Neutral and BD=Warm) from the fairest ivory to the darkest, richest mocha, I think that most will have success in discovering a befitting shade match.
  • It does have the typical YSL cucumber fragrance, but I find it to be less strong than other YSL base formulas and it dissipates within a couple of minutes.  I am generally opposed to scent in foundation, but my extra sensitive skin hasn't been bothered by this fragrance.
  • This is a marvelous option for one seeking an extremely light texture, medium (buildable to full) coverage, a soft matte finsih and marvelous lasting power.

Bottom Line: The hype surrounding the YSL Fusion Ink Foundation (currently available at Neiman MarcusNordstromSephoraBloomingdalesBergdorf GoodmanSaks and Selfridges) is completely justified in my experience.  The ultra light texture, soft matte finish and splendid lasting power make this a foundation worth trying.  It is excellent for normal skin seeking medium coverage and a flawless finish that takes on a bit of glow as the day proceeds! Additionally, the NARS Audacious Lipstick in Raquel (currently available at Barney's NY and NARS.com) is fast becoming one of my favorite nudes to date...it has most perfect amount of creamy opacity that achieves a nude effect without washing out the face. Brilliant!  I could't be more pleased with either product and hope you found this swatch-laden review helpful.

Beauty Bits + Bobs Including the Charlotte Tibury Launch + Labor Day Sales

Above: The Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Killer Cheekbones Bronze + Glow...this pair of finely-milled powders gets constant use!
Good day to you, lovely readers!  Before running off for some family time today, I wanted to share a round of beauty news including details surrounding the hotly-anticipated stateside arrival of the gorgeous Charlotte Tilbury Beauty line and some great Labor Day Weekend sale options.

Kindly scroll on for all the details as well as the Bottom Line...

First up, the launch of the stunning Charlotte Tilbury beauty line...ever since procuring the Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Killer Cheekbones Bronze + Glow (reviewed HERE), I have been enchanted and beyond eager to try other products from the collection.  Now that they will be available in the US in the coming weeks, that dream shall become a reality!
  • The line will launch online first on September 2nd at charlottetilbury.com, Nordstrom,Bergdorf Goodman and Net-A-Porter and BeautyLish.com
  • Then, Charlotte is partnering up with Bergdorf Goodman in New York (10/7) and Nordstrom in Los Angeles at The Grove (10/10-11) for MASSIVE launch events.  More details to follow!
  • Launch events will also be hosted with Nordstrom in other major markets including Dallas, Houston, Chicago, Orange County, Washington D.C. and Las Vegas through Spring 2015.

Charlotte's Beauty Philosophy:

“Beauty is not an exclusive club – there are no unattractive women, just some that don’t know the power of make-up,” says Charlotte Tilbury. “I was shocked to find out that 50% of women do not engage with make-up and the reasons are: they don’t know how to use it, they don’t know what suits them, they don’t have the time. I wanted to revolutionize the retail experience for these women. Even as a professional makeup artist, I walk onto the Beauty Hall floor and want to run in the opposite direction.  There’s so much choice and so little direction, help and problem-solving and I wanted to set my brand apart from this.”

What will YOU be choosing from this magnificent line?

Above: Happy Labor Day Weekend!  By the way, a few new braid tutorials coming your way in the near future...as a preview, this is the 5-strand braid.

Additionally, while I was out at some meetings earlier this week, I stumbled upon this display for the endlessly versatile Giorgio Armani Eye + Brow Maestro; these highly-pigmented cream pigments are water-resistant and correspond with most hair colors, making them incredible partners for the brows and roots as well as adding color and depth to the eyes and cheeks.  This product is truly a miracle formula and I have swatches of every shade!  #4 Ambre is a gorgeous brown khaki that works on my brows and lids...I haven't tried it as a contour yet, but it is neutral enough to work so I will be experimeting with it soon.

Bottom Line: I hope your summer has been as restful and wonderful as mine has...truly, the simplicity of a bit more rest, time to reflect, opportunities to organize and moments to enjoy the sun and a great cappucino have made the last three months a blessing and I aim to start my fall responsibilities with a new sense of refreshed focus!  Today's FOTD celebrates some brand new products as well as some trusted favorites...do you spy any that you know and love?

I'll be doing a bit of online shopping later on tonight...what about you?

Great things ahead including the winner of the RBR Palette, my August Favorites video, a host of new product discoveries, haircare tutorials and a natural makeup feature.  In the midst of responding to comments and emails...should be able to catch up on everything over the next few days ; ) In the meanwhile, I'll try to keep the posts coming!

Have a beautiful rest of the weekend...xx,

Attention Southern CA Locals...Weekend Musings and New Products in My Arsenal!

Above: The latest creation from Seth Wegter Bags...The Hayworth.
It's Friday and the weekend is upon us...what a whirlwind that was!  I hope you've had a chance to watch my August Favorites Video.  If you haven't yet, grab a snack and plan for a twenty minute excursion into all things beauty and skincare related ; ) This post covers a bit of this and that...beginning with an unmissible weekend event and closing with a preview of a few new beauty items in my life.
Kindly scroll on for all the details as well as the Bottom Line...

Above: Come to the Seal Beach Pier this weekend...it would be marvelous to see you!
If you are a Southern California local (or happen to be in the area this weekend), consider yourself cordially invited to the Seal Beach Arts and Crafts Festival.  My brother, Seth Wegter, makes handcrafted bags and accessories of incredible quality and creativity and he will be having a booth there all weekend (see details on the image above).  This free event, which is held on either side of the Seal Beach Pier, is always a brilliant way to enjoy the last bit of summer; I will be there helping him all weekend and implore you to stop by and say hello if you are so inclined!

Above: So much Charlotte Tilbury brilliance nestled in a single box.
Next up, I just received my initial (yes, there shall be more!) Charlotte Tilbury order from Net-A-Porter.  Although I haven't had the chance to properly photograph everything yet, the shiny mahogany boxes are eye candy of their own, no?  I already adore the Bronze and Glow (thoroughly discussed HERE) and am beyond thrilled by its newfound accessibility in the US. The line (also available at Nordstrom and CharlotteTilbury.com) has a full spectrum of products...from eyeshadow and mascara to lipstick and powder, it's all really quite lovely.  I picked up:

Above: Charlotte Tilbury Lip Lustre Gloss in Seduction (a creamy light beige) and Portobello Girl (a sheer baby pink).
I also have my eye on the Wonderglow, Magic Cream, Cheek to Chic Swish and Pop Blush in First Love and, of course, the Light Wonder Foundation. I highly recommend taking a peek at Nordstrom and Net-A-Porter (free shipping...my order, beautifully wrapped, arrived in two days!) while both sites still have stock (it's been selling like crazy).  Can't wait to hear what you choose!

Above: LVX Nail Lacquer in Laguna.
If you have been a long time reader of Beauty Professor, then you know that I rarely paint my nails and if I do, it is usually some hue of nude.  That being said, I recently tried the LVX Nail Lacquer in Laguna...a creamy, pigmented soft turquoise that is unlike anything I own to date.  Even though it is totally outside of my comfort zone, I have been duly amused by the adventure of wearing this gorgeous formula ( the past couple of days.  Thoughts?

Above: Wearing the Hourglass Illusion Hyaluronic Skin Tint in Golden.
Finally, I've been experimenting with the Hourglass Illusion Hyaluronic Skin Tint (currently available at Sephora).  Chock full of beneficial, anti-aging ingredients, this new formula features medium to full coverage with an ultra light finish and marvelous wear time.  My shade is Golden, which works for my currently NC 25-27 skin.  Swatches and review in the very near future!

--Shop the Post--

Bottom Line: I hope you enjoyed this post and would LOVE to see you at my brother's booth at the Seal Beach Arts and Crafts Festival...please stop by if you can!  Also, do leave me a comment letting me know what Charlotte Tilbury products you've already procured or which ones you have your eye on.  Let the discussion commence!

xoxo and much more soon,

FOTD: Banquet Night

Above: My recent look for the Cinecon Banquet.
Last weekend, my family and I attended the Cinecon Film Festival in Hollywood...we've volunteered with the organization for the past 12 years and are always enchanted by the rare film screenings and commiseration with like minded classic movie buffs.  Celebrating its 50th year, the event is always capped by a hotly anticipated banquet; this timeless fete is attended by film actors and film lovers alike!  I opted for a clean and simple look that is not much different from my normal routine...funny how things work out ; )

Kindly scroll on for a list of the products I used to get ready as well as the Bottom Line...

Products Used:
**Black Jumpsuit from Nordstrom...I have gotten so much use from this piece...it works for casual moments, dressy times AND, it is endlessly comfortable!

Above: Ready to head out.
Above: With my date for the evening...he also happens to be my husband.

Bottom Line: When I do my makeup for special events, I find that it looks nearly the same as my "every day face." Perhaps that is because my affinity for a matte, yet glowing canvas, bronzed cheeks, neutral eye and peachy pink nude lip is steadfact and unchanging!

Have YOU tried any products from my list?  Thoughts?

As I mentioned in my last post, if you are in the Orange County, CA area this weekend, please swing by the Seal Beach Arts and Crafts Festival and say hi...I'll be helping at my brother's booth both Saturday and Sunday!  If you have trouble finding us, send me a tweet (@beauteprofessor) or an Instagram comment (@beautyprofessor) and I'll guide you to our location...got to love technology ; )

xx and have a beautiful Saturday,

New Skincare Alert: Praises for the SK-II Pitera Essence Set

$

Above: The SK-II Pitera Essence Set...a marvelous introduction to the venerable SK-II skincare line.
I only have a few moments before running off to help my brother at his booth again today (a big thanks to all of you who stopped by yesterday...what a treat!  He had such a successful Saturday!) but wanted to quickly broach the subject of the SK-II Pitera Essence Set.  With current changes in the weather, my work schedule (hello again, early mornings) and the constant stream of experimentation with cosmetics (namely, base products as of late), my skin has been under a bit of stress.  The SK-II Pitera Essence Set couldn't have come at a better time.  I have discovered that the heat and humidity (coupled with time spent in an inordinately hot classroom) is making traditional moisturizer "too much" for my skin, resulting in a few clogged pores and excess oil production.  The light, clarifying properties of the Facial Treatment Clear Lotion and Facial Treatment Essence have transformed the quality and clarity of my skin in a matter of days...light, nourishing and easy to use (just have some cotton pads handy for application!), oil production has been reduced and my canvas is smoother and healthier than I've seen it since my schedule has changed.  I use both products in the morning and the night, followed by sunscreen, Peau Vierge and the foundation of my choosing and I am finding that this skincare combination is even contributing to a more lasting finish for my makeup!

Kindly scroll on for the rest of the details and the Bottom Line...

Above: The set comes with the Facial Treatment Essence, Facial Treatment Mask (1) and Facial Teratment Clear Lotion.
Here are the official details, courtesy of Neiman Marcus:

Pitera Essential Set

An essential collection of three of SK-II's bestsellers to begin the skin's journey towards crystal clarity. Discover a life-changing skincare regimen beginning with the signature Pitera™ rich Facial Treatment Essence, complemented by the clarifying Clear Lotion. It also includes the favorite Facial Mask for an unforgettably indulgent moisturizing experience. Used together, skin becomes significantly clearer, firmer, and more radiant.

Each set contains:
  • Facial Treatment Essence 75 mL
  • Facial Treatment Mask 1pc
  • Facial Treatment Clear Lotion 40 mL
At a Glance:
An essentials collection of three of SK-II's bestsellers to begin the skin's journey towards crystal clarity. Skin becomes visibly clearer, firmer, and more radiant.

  • After cleansing, pour a few drops of the Clear Lotion on a cotton pad and wipe around the face and neck.
  • Follow up by soaking a cotton pad with Facial Treatment Essence and gently smoothing onto your face for 1 minute.
  • Use every morning and night.
  • For an instant and intensive boost, place the Facial Mask starting from the center and patting outwards. Leave on for 5-15 minutes.

Above: The very short ingredients lists of the products...always a promising sign.
Above: After being a bit reactive and fatigued, my skin is smooth, clear and glowing after a few days with the SK-II Pitera Essence Set.  I am also wearing the Charlotte Tilbury K.I.S.S.I.N.G Lipstick in Penelope Pink, a divine nude beige (discussed HERE).
Above: These two gems truly have made a difference...off to go apply them right now ; )
--Shop the Post--

Bottom Line: I have long heard glowing praises for SK-II skincare line and am thrilled to have finally had the chance to try it.  In combination with another Japanese skincare product from Shiseido (more on this in the next week or two!), I am finding that my skin is reacting so very well (smoother, clearer, brighter!) to the gentle yet effective ingredients of the SK-II Pitera Essence Set and look forward to experiencing other SK-II products in the near future.  This is an excellent, affordable set for those looking to try the most popular products in the SK-II line.  Will update again next month to discuss my results over time!

I hope your weekend is lovely...xx,

12 End of Summer Empties...Good to the Last Drop!

Above: My 12 End of Summer Empties...well-worn and well-loved.
I devote a great deal of time attempting to take aesthetically pleasing pictures of skincare and beauty products.  I have learned, however, that it is nearly impossible to capture the loveliness of an empty (hence the creative filter on these particular images); it is its very nature (well worn and well loved) that makes it less than pleasing on the eyes.  So be it! Empties in my life are few and far between; this is likely due to the sheer volume of beauty and skincare products and I am vested to test on a regular basis.  Even still, there are those items that so magnificently resonate with one's personal routine that they demand daily use until the every last drop has been extracted. Tried, tested and true...here are my empties!

Kindly scroll on for a list of all 12 empties, links to their respective reviews on Beauty Professor (which, of course, speak for themselves) and the Bottom Line...

Above: Behold...the Quincy!
On an unrelated note, I wanted to briefly introduce you to my latest Seth Wegter bag (procured at his show last weekend)...the Quincy.  This black on black on black wonder is structured enough to feel dressy, earthy enough to translate to casual and sized perfectly to hold all of my day to day essentials.  With two handles (for easy forearm carrying) and a crossbody strap, it's chic versatility incarnate!
It's finally Friday...Jethro and I hope you have a marvelous weekend!

--Shop the Post--

Bottom Line: There is something so fundamentally satisfying about completely finishing a product!  I hope you enjoyed this empties rundown and wish you a lovely and relaxing weekend.

What have YOU used to the last drop as of late?

If you are a Southern CA local, perhaps we'll cross paths at the Neiman Marcus Project Beauty at Fashion Island on Saturday?!

Charlotte Tilbury Haul Part I: Airbrush Flawless Finish Powder, Penelope Pink + Seduction and Portobello Girl Glosses!

$
0
0

Above: Fast becoming a current favorite, the Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Finish Skin Perfecting Micro Powder comes in a gorgeous rose gold compact.  **Mosaic Mirror by Dawn Mendelson Designs
A couple of weeks ago, I placed my first Charlotte Tilbury order once the line debuted in the US.  It has since arrived (have I mentioned how insanely quick the Net-A-Porter shipping is?) and I am excited to share images of my spoils, which include powder, lipstick and lipgloss!

Kindly scroll on for images, details, swatches and the Bottom Line...

As soon as I read the description (see details below), I knew that the Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Finish Skin Perfecting Micro-Powder was a "must try" product for me.  My affinity for base products is no secret and heat and humidity of late August and early September completely justified this experimental purchase.  I am happy to report that I have absolutely no regrets!  This unscented, ultra silky formula combats shine like a dream but it still has soft, satin finish that isn't "powdery." I have been coupling it with my Tom Ford Traceless Perfecting Foundation (featured in my Bulletproof Foundation Routine video) and am stunned by how well it keeps my base in place for well over nine hours, even in extreme heat and humidity!

Above: The full ingredients list.
  • Official details, courtesy of Net-A-Porter:

If you struggle with an oily T-zone, or simply want a flawless 'retouched' look, Charlotte Tilbury's skin-perfecting powder is a must-have. "Like the most finely-milled cashmere", this soft formula blurs imperfections and fine lines without ever creating a cakey texture. Dust a little over your forehead and nose to transform a shiny complexion.
    • Perfect for medium skin tones
    • Apply over any lipstick for a matte finish
    • Infused with hydrating Rose Wax and Almond Oil for a creamy, non-talcy texture

Also available at Nordstrom and Selfridges, the slender powder compact does not come with a puff or brush, so I have been using my retractable Chanel Kabuki to buff it on directly following foundation application and later on in the day for a single touch up.  My skin looks fresh and balanced and the formula in no way has irritated my sensitive skin.  Although it also comes in Light and Dark, the Medium shade is a wonderful neutral beige, perfect for light to medium skin tones and I find that even though this powder is sheer, it blurs pores and imperfections and also evens my skintone in an invisible fashion...absolutely marvelous!
Above: Ultra finely milled, this powder instantly melds with the skin while removing unwanted shine and refining the complexion.
Above: A heavy swatch of Medium in direct sunlight.
Above: The Charlotte Tilbury K.I.S.S.I.N.G Fallen From The Lipstick Tree lip color comes in a signature rose gold metal case.
Next up, the Charlotte Tilbury K.I.S.S.I.N.G Fallen From The Lipstick Tree lip color in Penelope Pink (also available at Nordstrom and Selfridges).  I initially vaccilated between Nude Kate and this particular shade but I am so glad this won out.  The formula is smooth, pigmented, hydrating and very comfortable to wear.  I get 3-4 hours of lasting power without feeling the need to touch up and the ingredients seem to agree with my perennially dry lips.  In fact, I am quite impressed by how moisturized they feel, even after hours of wear!
Above: The full ingredients list.
Above: The soon-to-be-iconic Charlotte Tilbury lip color tube.
  • Official details, courtesy of Net-A-Porter:

A flawless shade of nude-pink, Charlotte Tilbury's Penelope Pink lipstick will flatter every skin tone. Made in Italy, the velvety formula is enriched with soothing Lipstick Tree extract to nourish while it colors. Wear this subtle shade every day.

To be frank, Penelope Pink is not very pink at all.  I would deem it a creamy nude beige (no shimmer!) with peachy undertones.  It is pale enough for a nude effect but not so light as to wash out the face...overall, it is utterly stunning!

Finally, the Charlotte Tilbury Lip Lustre Luxe-Colour-Lasting Lip Lacquer in Seduction and Portobello Girl (also available at Nordstrom and Selfridges) are apropos choices for those who love nude and pink!  The gloss formula is plush, pigmented and delightfully non-sticky; it has a subtle candy scent, no discernable taste and decent lasting power.

Seduction is a marvelous nude beige with pink undertones.  It is creamy and opaquely pigmented and has a "liquid lip color" effect when worn alone while increasing the nude lip impact when coupled with Penelope Pink.

Portobello Girl is a light baby pink with delicate shimmer; it has a sheerer finish than Seduction but still lends a tender pale candy pink tone to the lips.  It brings out the latent rosy tones in Penelope Pink when worn in tandem with this creamy nude lipstick.

Official details, courtesy of Net-A-Porter:

    • "With Lip Lustre, everyone gets to join the Perfect Lip Club!" says makeup artist Charlotte Tilbury of her long-lasting color-rich formula. We love this ‘Seduction’ shade - it's a sophisticated muted rose that suits any skin tone. Apply it over lip liner or lipstick for a younger-looking, fuller pout.
      • Enriched with Lotus Flower extract to protect, hydrate and soothe
      • Designed to be worn with K.I.S.S.I.N.G lipstick in Penelope Pink and Lip Cheat Liner in Pillow Talk

Amplify your pout with Charlotte Tilbury's plumping lip gloss. This glossy formula has a high-shine finish that stays in place for up to six hours. We think this classic pale-pink 'Portobello Girl' shade is especially flattering on porcelain and fair skin tones.

Bottom Line: I hope you enjoyed this image heavy post and are inspired by the beauty that is the Charlotte Tilbury line (available at Net-A-Porter, Nordstrom and Selfridges)!  I have more products on deck (the Color Chameleon eyeshadows) and even more on their way (Blush! Foundation! Magic Cream!), slated for detailed reviews as soon as they are properly swatched, photographed and tested.  Can't wait!

Up next, an overview of the Neiman Marcus Project Beauty event (including a rundown on what I picked up).  It was so wonderful to meet up with dear friend and blogger extraordinare Sabrina of The Beauty Look Book and to cross paths with lovely BP reader Karen M. at the event...pictures soon! I'll also be sharing a review (with a copious amount of swatches) of the new Laura Mercier Smooth Finish Flawless Fluide Foundation! Have you yet tried it?

Have a beautiful Sunday...xx,

Laura Mercier Smooth Finish Flawless Fluide...Swatches, Review and Beauty Look!

Above: An array of Laura Mercier for a flawless face.
I have used Laura Mercier products for years.  From Secret Camouflage (nothing conceals blemishes better) to her Creme Smooth lipstick in 60's Pink (reviewed HERE), her cosmetics are tasteful, classic and endlessly wearable.  Although the color in the Laura Mercier line is gorgeous, the brand is perhaps most synonymous with the concept of the flawless face.  With base products ranging from sheer tinted moisturizer to finely-milled mineral powder (and everything in-between), the flawless face now has a new Laura Mercier option...the Smooth Finish Flawless Fluide, a revolutionary oil-free formula that feels extraordinarily light while still providing magnificent coverage.

Kindly scroll on for more details, swatches, a Laura Mercier-centric beauty look and the Bottom Line...

Above: Laura Mercier flawless face options, including award-winning primer and tinted moisturizer.
Initially, I was able to visit with Laura Mercier Specialist, Erika Poblano, who candidly shared the flawless face philosophy with me.  I couldn't wait to swatch the freshly-released Smooth Finish Flawless Fluide, which comes in an impressive spectrum of 24 shades!

Above: Laura Mercier Makeup Artist Erika Poblano and Beauty Professor.
The Smooth Finish Flawless Fluide is brilliant.  The liquid formula feels like water and glides on the skin effortlessly, leaving an incredibly natural veil of buildable, medium to full coverage in its wake.  I find that only a few drops are necessary to cover my entire face and, should more coverage be necessary, another drop or two can be buffed on without looking the slightest bit cakey.

This formula has a satin matte finish that doesn't oxidize; it is friendly to sensitive skin (like mine!) and has particularly significant lasting power.  Although it feels quite "thin" and liquid in texture, once it sets (in approximately 30 seconds or so), it doesn't slide, budge, pool or transfer...marvelous!

Here are the official details, courtesy of Laura Mercier:

smooth finish flawless fluide

A long-wear, oil-free foundation that magically blurs the line between real skin and makeup. Shake & tap to activate!
PRODUCT TECHNOLOGY: This revolutionary bi-phase, two part formula is designed to deliver the most natural looking colour and lightweight coverage. Colour true pigments rest at the bottom of the package while reflective waters (Hydro-Brilliant Technology) float to the top. Vigorously shaking the package before each use ensures the pigments blend with the reflective waters to create fresh colour every time.
APPLICATION TECHNIQUE: SHAKE & TAP TO ACTIVATE!
To activate: with each use shake vigorously for a minimum of 10 seconds andtap several times at the end of the package by the shade label.
To apply: dispense onto back of your hand and apply to clean skin with Laura’s Foundation Sponge or fingertips. For best results, use with your preferred Laura Mercier Foundation Primer.

WHAT TO EXPECT: Once you shake and tap to activate the formula, gently release the cap. You may experience a surge of product when dispensed. This is normal for a bi-phased formula. If the formula appears separated, it has not been shaken long enough. Just put the cap back on and shake more vigorously.

Above: Shorts for work...yes, they will do.
We are experiencing a major Indian Summer heatwave in Southern California right now...not just marginally hot, not just relatively hot, I'm talking 100+ degrees and over 80% humidity hot!  Couple that inferno with a classroom that is not air-conditioned and what's a girl to do?  Today, the answer was shorts and booties.

Kindly scroll on for all the details, including what makeup is taking me through this sweltering week...

Relaxed yet polished, covered up yet breezy, this is an outfit that simply works.

My makeup process was equally effectively, taking me through hours of heat with minimal wear and tear.  The images above and below reflect my look by the day's end (10 hours after application).  I used key products from my Bulletproof Foundation Routine video to help keep
