My obsession with foundation is no secret.  In turn, I swatch...a lot.  Recently, I procured both the elusive Suqqu Frame Fix Cream Foundation (review found HERE) in two shades as well as the brand new By Terry Densiliss Foundation (full shade spectrum can be found HERE).  Since both formulas are not easily attainable for most, I've received a barrage of requests for swatches of both formulas, alongside some other By Terry formulas (Sheer and Cover Expert) and a oft-written about and personal lifetime favorite, Kanebo Sensai Cellular Performance Cream Foundation.

Despite a hectic week, I am happy to oblige and hope the following swatches and shade descriptions (in my personal experience) are endlessly helpful for those of you ordering these formulas online!  Scroll on!

Above: Olay Regenerist Wrinkle Revolution Complex and Micro-Sculpting Eye Cream and Lash Serum Duo.
As an avid makeup lover and wearer, prepping and priming the face is essential to the "getting ready" process.  A balanced and hydrated canvas simply makes cosmetics perform more effectively!  However, finding results-driven skincare at any price point can be challenging.  I recently had the chance to try a couple of skin-priming products from the Olay Regenerist line and have found them to be excellent precursors to makeup application.

Scroll on for product images and details as well as the Bottom Line...

Above: The Olay Regenerist Wrinkle Revolution Complex retails for $25.99
The Olay Regenerist Wrinkle Revolution Complex is an anti-aging primer that hydrates the skin while reflecting light, smoothing fine lines and reducing the look of pores.  Additionally, studies report that prolonged use (14 + days) will lessen wrinkles on a more profound and lasting level, not just an immediately visible one!

Above: The "back matter" and ingredients list for the Olay Regenerist Wrinkle Revolution Complex.
Above: The complex comes in a liberally-sized 1.7 ounce pump dispenser that limits waste (a single pump is enough for my entire face) and keeps the contents hygienic and free from contamination.
Above: A single pump of the complex on my hand.
The complex itself is silky and quickly absorbed into the skin...I love the way it disappears, leaving behind a satin finish that blurs fine lines and obvious pores without irritating my extremely sensitive skin.  For moments when I'm on the run and don't have time to layer products, this "one-step wonder" takes care of my hydration, anti-aging and priming needs in one fell swoop.  The light-reflecting properties are delightfully subtle rather than overtly shimmery; it provides an incandescent glow that reminds me of a hybrid of two of my lifetime favorite primers, the LMdB Peau Vierge and Hourglass Mineral Veil, both of which, at the sake of full disclosure, contain different ingredients and are at a significantly higher price point.

Above: The "back matter" for the duo.
The Olay Regenerist Micro-Sculpting Eye Cream and Lash Serum Duo is a fascinating chimera that breeds an anti-aging eye cream with a nourishing lash treatment.  As someone who travels often, I love the fact that both products are contained within a single product; the genius dual sided wand makes for functionality and portability.  I have enjoyed experimenting with these two products and recently mentioned this duo in my latest Updated Skincare Video.

Above: The ingredients for the eye cream and lash serum.
Above: The eye cream squeeze tube.
The eye cream (which comes in an easy to control squeeze tube) is a rich, cooling gel that possesses a subtle golden undertone that brightens up my often tired orbital area upon contact.  I feel instantly hydrated and refreshed and appreciate the fact that the cream absorbs so readily.  The brightening and firming properties truly last all day!

Above: I applied a thick amount of the eye cream in hopes that the  golden sheen would translate in this image.
Above: The lash serum is applied with a pliable, plastic mascara brush.
The clear Lash Serum is applied with a mascara-type brush that allows me to work the formula deep into the roots of my lashes (where I imagine the nourishing properties are able to do the most good).  I have been applying this both before bed and also in the morning prior to mascara application as a primer of sorts.  A single coat makes my lashes feel slightly thicker and more bouncy...ready to withstand the copious amounts of mascara to come ; )

Above: Prepped and primed and ready for the day.
Bottom Line:  There is a host of skincare options on the market, suited to every budget.  Thankfully, Olay products are both high in quality and efficacy as well as being accessible and affordable.  Many of my readers have asked me for alternatives to pricier skincare products and I am happy to say that I am   impressed by the Olay Regenerist line; it has cutting-edge ingredients and the ability to prime my skin for the makeup to come.  Have you tried anything from the Olay Regenerist line?  Thoughts?

Disclosure: This post was sponsored by Olay through their partnership with POPSUGAR Select. While I was compensated to write a post about Olay Regenerist Micro-Sculpting Eye Cream & Lash Serum Duo and Regenerist Wrinkle Revolution Complex, all opinions are my own.

New Product Alert: Rouge Bunny Rouge Nocturnal Ink Satin Eyeliner...Swatches and Video Review

    $
    0
    0

Above: Nocturnal Ink Satin Eyeliner, resplendent in the afternoon sun.
Rouge Bunny Rouge is one of my favorite beauty lines due to its gorgeous pigmentation, inspired packaging and  enchanting aesthetic.  From foundation to bronzers to lip color (and everything in-between!), this European brand is simply stunning.  When I received word that the line was soon to release a new installment of liquid liners, I could hardly contain my excitement.  The RBR Feline Gaze Eyeliner is one of my favorite eyeliners ever and I knew that this fresh collection of liners would not disappoint.

Here is what Rouge Bunny Rouge has to say about Nocturnal Ink...

When night draws close in the Enchanted Garden, shapes are softened that were once so vivid in the day. The scattered light of waxing gibbous moon casts inky silhouettes of leaf and flower across the landscape’s shadowy cloak. Only then do wood sylphs appear as dainty and fleeting as humming birds, animated in one moment, absconded in the next. Over their translucent forms the ebony outlines fall, tattooing botanical images in lustrous nocturnal ink. In this curious rites of passage reserved only for the young, sylphs disappear before forest commandeers its precious etchings back. Displayed proudly, each unique graphical adornment is worn over the natural beauty of their skin. Thereafter revealed only when desired, as each has the power to summon or banish their illustrated beauty as wished.

This ethereal moment in the garden of precise inky borders creating an otherworldly grace inspired NOCTURNAL INK Satin Eyeliner. Define eyes with complete precision, emphasising their allure, making lashes fuller. Luminous hues capture the sheen of a sylphs skin in a brilliant sateen finish while the unique slim, flexible applicator tip shaped like a brush, ensures unwavering strokes at all times. Your ultrafine or dramatic lines stay exactly where put yet can be instantly removed without trace, leaving the memory of your exquisite look etched in the mind forever.

This first of its kind, non-staining eyeliner ink provides sleek, high intensity make-up that lasts all day. Quick drying, transferproof and with no smearing or smudging, precise lines are achieved that are even water resistant. Spot colour between the lashes on the lash line so they appear fuller and use this innovative precision liner with confidence, knowing its expert design ensures perfect results are effortlessly achieved. Safe and comfortable to wear around the sensitive eye area; Satin Eyeliner is both dermatologically and ophthalmologically approved.

    Sounds magical, no?

Nocturnal Ink comes in three shades:
    • Friesian...a gold-flecked charcoal black.
    • Dark Bay...a dark khaki brown.
    • Blue Roan...a deep indigo blue.

The felt tip is strong enough to impart a rich swath of pigment that glides over the eyelid with ease, yet delicate enough to be incredibly precise in the diminutive orbital area.   The innovative formula dries quickly and is stalwart in nature...I haven't experienced an ounce of fading, flaking or migration; once it sets, it remains in place until it is washed off!  The satin finish is utterly beautiful...it is subtle and sophisticated (rather than glittery) and gets more complex and multidimensional with with extended wear.

Kindly scroll on for additional images, swatches, my video review and the Bottom Line...

Above: Rouge Bunny Rouge Nocturnal Ink in Friesian and lip color in The Plot Thickens, Tongue Tickles and Rahat Lokum.
Bottom Line: The Rouge Bunny Rouge Nocturnal Ink is everything a liquid liner should be...expertly crafted, extremely precise, highly pigmented and long lasting.  The fact that this formula comes in an array of gorgeous shades is additionally delightful!  I am hesitant to designate a favorite shade because they are all so lovely; let's just put it this way...they are all in my makeup bag these days ; )

The Nocturnal Ink liner should be available in the coming weeks...I suggest monitoring the Rouge Bunny Rouge website and Beauty Habit for its arrival!

Nubar Alter Ego Collection...Swatches and Review

For the sake of full disclosure, I am typically hesitant to apply nail polish to my fingernails.  I find the chemicals included in most formulas to be prohibitive at best.  That being stated, when I was given the chance to try a few shades from the Nubar line,  I was open to the idea given the fact that this brand prides itself on quality nail polish without the typical chemical offenders like Formaldehyde, Phthalate and Toluene.

The Nubar Alter Ego Collection features non-toxic glittery goodness, just in time to put the sparkle in your holidays.  Here's what Nubar has to say about the collection...

REINVENT YOUR ALTER EGO THIS HOLIDAY SEASON WITH NUBAR’S 3D MULTI-FACTED GLITTERED TOP COATS! Multi-dimensional. Vibrant. Colorful. Worn on their own or over nail color, all eight (8) colors combine Glitter, Micas and multi-colored, random-sized Mylar to give nails an out-of-this world, but on-trend, 3D effect. Every radiant Alter Ego hue contains Mylar, a fine, random cut film used in nail polishes to give a unique, 3D effect.

Above: The Alter Ego Collection is punctuated by multi-colored and variegated glitter and Mylar...it's spectacular!

Bottom Line: If you love delicate, whisper-thin glitter of varying undertones, then the Nubar Alter Ego Collection is just for you; the shades look stunning on their own and would be amazing over a more opaque nail polish color as well (my next experiment...). The tender, shimmering, holographic discs catch the light effortlessly, resulting in a glittering, glimmering, non-toxic party on your fingertips!

Le Metier de Beaute Hydra Creme Lip Color...Swatches and Video Review

Above: All shades of the Le Metier de Beaute Hydra Creme Lip Color.
The Le Metier de Beaute line never ceases to amaze me with its new releases.  Case in point: the Hydra Creme Lip Color formula, which is endlessly lovely. From its lush, moisturizing texture to its impressive pigmentation, this new lipstick incarnation is yet another asset to the already formidable Le Metier brand.
Above: The chic Hydra Creme lipstick case.
Retailing for $25, the Hydra Creme Lip Color is markedly different in texture from the Color Core Moisture Stain Lip Color.  Housed in a sleek riveted silver case, this formula is decidedly more buttery and emollient than the Color Core version, which is more like a moisturizing stain.  The Hydra Creme feels cushiony and intensely hydrating (which is not to say the Color Core is not moisturizing as well...it is, indeed. It just doesn't feel as rich when first applied).  In my experience, one coat of Hydra Creme translates as relatively sheer, but by the luxuriously plush second or third coat, the lip color has effortlessly reached medium to full opacity.  Brilliant!

Kindly scroll on for images, swatches and a video review of Sahara, Cashmere and Butterfield 8!

Above: Sahara in natural outdoor lighting.
Upon discovering that these gems had arrived at my local Neiman Marcus, I quickly deliberated about which shade to initially choose.  Of course, my eyes scanned for the palest pinky nude shades in existence...this typical search led me straight to Sahara, which, in my experience, is a pinky, peach-leaning nude.  One swatch and I knew that it was to be my first of this formula...I even picked one up for my mom.

Above: Cashmere in natural outdoor lighting.
After a couple of days of supremely hydrating wear with Sahara, I came to the distinct conclusion that there was definitely room in my collection for other shades in this formula.  In turn, my next trip to Neiman's yielded Cashmere and Butterfield 8.  Cashmere is a pinky nude beige that lacks the sandy peach undertones so prominent in Sahara.  That distinct quality alone cinched the deal.

Above: Butterfield 8 in natural outdoor lighting.
Butterfield 8, in contrast, is a bold departure from nude territory...this glimmering soft coral adds in instant pop of color, confirming its place as the most immediately pigmented shade of the three I own.  This lush vibrance, coupled with the fact that its name is undeniably reminiscent of a devastatingly beautiful yet tragic Elizabeth Taylor film.  In fact, the shade itself is delightfully anachronistic, comfortably at place in the late 1950's and early 1960's in hue and finish.  Love.

Above: Swatches of my three selections...Sahara, Cashmere and Butterfield 8.
Above: The Hydra Creme ingredients list.
Above: Swatches of the pinky, peachy nude Hydra Cremes in bright indoor lighting.
Above and below: Swatches of the peach, pink, nude Hydra Cremes upon which I deliberated...these images were taken in indoor lighting, but are quite true to life in terms of color and tone.  Though indisputably lovely, I ruled out Bellini as too pale (!) and Bottecelli Angel as too dark and bright for my personal taste.

Above: Swatches of the pinky, peachy nude Hydra Cremes in darker indoor lighting.
The Shade List (with official shade descriptions from LMdB):
    • SIGNATURE RED — MATTE GARNET RED
    • BUTTERFIELD 8 — CORAL CHAMPAGNE
    • THINK PINK — BOLD PINK
    • MARASCHINO — CHERRY RED
    • ROSE GARNET — FROSTED MAGENTA
    • MOROCCO — BROWNISH RED
    • BOTTICELLI ANGEL — WARM PEACH ROSE
    • TEA ROSE — RASPBERRY PINK
    • SAHARA — SANDY CORAL NUDE
    • MONDRIAN — VIVID TANGERINE CORAL
    • GRENADINE — RICH PLUM
    • CASHMERE — BEIGE ROSE
    • BREATHLESS — NEUTRAL WARM PINK
    • ONE & ONLY — NEUTRAL BROWN PINK

    • ICON — TRUE RED

    VIDEO!

Above: Wearing Sahara on the lips.
Bottom Line: The Le Metier de Beaute Hydra Creme Lip Color is incredible.  The buttery smooth texture, lush pigmentation and immense hydration properties make this a lipstick option that is both physically and aesthetically pleasing. My perennially dry lips are in Hydra Creme heaven...heartily recommended!

On this beautiful Monday that some of us have off of work and school, let us not forget the supreme sacrifice of our service men and woman as well as their families; their commitment to the safety and well being of our country is deeply appreciated!

I am honored to work directly with many of these individuals as a professor in the Coastline College Military Program...some are valiantly completing their degrees while deployed overseas while others are on the home front,  bravely waiting for the safe return of their spouse.  Also, both of my grandfathers served in the military...I am proud of their service!

Please feel free to comment on your own experience or connection with the armed services and have a blessed day...xoxo,

    --The Beauty Professor

P.S.  I just returned from another round of travel and am happy to report good things on the blog in the coming days...Surratt, Chanel, Koh Gen Do, Edward Bess, Givenchy, Napoleon Perdis and Tom Ford Men on the horizon!

FOTD: Las Vegas...Featuring Koh Gen Do Aqua Foundation Illuminator in Beige

    $

    0
Above: The Koh Gen Do Aqua Foundation Iluminator in Beige...tonally, this calls to mind a delicate champagne rose gold.
I just returned from a weekend trip to Las Vegas and, despite bringing copious amounts of makeup (I possess significantly less packing restraint when I don't have to fly), I found myself gravitating towards the same  product options each day that I was away.  This consistency was anchored by my reliance on the newly procured Koh Gen Do Aqua Foundation Illuminator in Beige.  Retailing for $39, a single pump of this veritable liquid light transformed my face into a dewy, radiant canvas that proactively enhanced every other makeup item I chose to apply.

It is incredibly weightless, delightfully unscented and brimming with the finest, most complex shimmer ever to emanate from an illuminating formula.  The beige tone makes it radiant without being "white" and its liquid texture allows it be seamlessly mixed into foundation or applied over existing makeup with remarkable ease.   Somehow, it makes my skin dewy and fresh without causing oiliness or excessive shine...truly a exceptional formula!

Official Product Information (courtesy of Koh Gen Do):
    • IL01 (Sheer Beige): Want to add glow without changing the skin tone? Sheer Beige was developed in response to such requests from makeup artists. When applied to skin in those areas that are most exposed to the light, such as the cheeks and forehead, its fine pearly particles add a beautiful glow without altering the tone, giving an elegant subtle glow to the skin. Add it into your foundation for that all over dewy glow without the shine.
No artificial colors, fragrance, petroleum-based mineral oil or paraben.

Ingredients: WATER, CYCLOPENTASILOXANE, DIPHENYLSILOXY PHENYL TRIMETHICONE, MICA, HDI/TRIMETHYLOL HEXYLLACTONE CROSSPOLYMER, TITANIUM DIOXIDE, ISONONYL ISONONANOATE, ALUMINA, PEG-9 POLYDIMETHYLSILOXYETHYL DIMETHICONE, PENTYLENE GLYCOL, DIGLYCERIN, SORBITAN SESQUIISOSTEARATE, PHYTOSTERYL/OCTYLDODECYL LAUROYL GLUTAMATE, GLYCERIN, SQUALANE, SORBITAN SESQUIOLEATE, SEA SALT, ACRYLATES/POLYTRIMETHYL SILOXYMETHACRYLATE COPOLYMER, SODIUM CHLORIDE, SILICA, BUTYLENE GLYCOL, DIMETHICONE, PHENOXYETHANOL, IRON OXIDES, SIMMONDSIA CHINENSIS (JOJOBA) SEED OIL, NYLON-12, TALC, TOCOPHEROL, LAUROYL LYSINE, POLYMETHYLSILSESQUIOXANE, ISOSTEARYL SEBACATE, ZINC MYRISTATE, TIN OXIDE, BUTYROSPERMUM PARKII (SHEA) BUTTER, CAMELLIA SINENSIS LEAF EXTRACT, DISODIUM STEAROYL GLUTAMATE, ALUMINUM HYDROXIDE, GLUCOSYL HESPERIDIN, MAGNESIUM ASCORBYL PHOSPHATE, GLYCYRRHIZA GLABRA (LICORICE) ROOT EXTRACT, SODIUM HYDROXIDE, BETULA ALBA BARK EXTRACT, KJELLMANIELLA GYRATA EXTRACT, ALPHA-GLUCAN, ALGAE EXTRACT, ALPINIA SPECIOSA LEAF EXTRACT, GLUCOSYL CERAMIDE, HYDROLYZED CONCHIOLIN PROTEIN, ACETYL HEXAPEPTIDE-8

I have been a fan of the Edward Bess line for years now...this elegantly streamlined exclusive collection   has produced one of my first cream foundations (!) and some of my favorite lipstick shades ever.  The fact that the creator of said line is equal parts gorgeous and charming makes for a double treat!  I recently had the chance to try the Edward Bess "Edward's Best" Palette which, as expected, does not disappoint!

Retailing for $75, this well-crafted palette features a generous mirror, lip brush and eight of the creamiest, most wearable shades ever!  The Edward Bess lip color formula is divine...extremely hydrating, richly pigmented and intoxicatingly fragranced with the subtle scent of fig.

    Products mentioned include

    1. Koh Gen Do Aqua Foundation Illuminator: I've used this everyday since receiving it early this month...one pump and my face glows all day without crossing the line into the dreaded "shine territory."
    2. Illamasqua Blush in Katie: This extremely pale pink matte blush adds the most exquisite rosy flush.  "Doll Cheeks" in three seconds flat!
    3. By Terry Touch Expert Concealer in #5 Vanilla Beige: This light beige with yellow undertones refines and brightens up my under eye region and conceals blemishes with an instant swath of velvety coverage that doesn't fade, cake or migrate, even after hours of wear.  A constant in my makeup bag as of late.
    4. Chanel Illusion d'Ombre Eyeshadow in Intuition: My brother picked this shade up for my mom and me while in Vegas last week...last two at Barney's NY!  It is a sparkly taupe that gains a gorgeous depth when applied heavily.  I can't stop wearing it with a touch of By Terry Cream Shadow in Brown Perfection (review soon!) in the crease...neutral perfection!
    5. Givenchy Poudre Bonne Mine Healthy Glow power in #1 Premiere Croisiere: Marketed as a light  bronzer (a la Chanel Les Beiges), #1 is so pale that I am using it as a setting and touch up powder for my NC 25 skin.  It has lovely medium coverage and a paradoxical matte/glowy finish that makes this a delightful discovery.
    5. Edward Bess "Edward's Best" Lip Palette: I adore the peachy pink goodness of "Candid Affair" and couldn't help but wear it in this video.  Here's to hoping that Edward releases a full lipstick bullet version of this shade immediately!

I welcome your questions and comments and hope you have a lovely start to your week! Good things ahead on the blog including a few new skincare items I'm in the midst of trying, Surratt Beauty swatches, Koh Gen Do Aqua Foundation (new formulation) swatches and holiday items from Napoleon Perdis and Jouer...

Muji Acrylic Storage Boxes...Adding Sanity to My Collection

Above: The Muji delivery...a copious amount of bubble wrap guaranteed that the boxes arrived unblemished from their East Coast to West Coast travels.
I have read about the many merits of the Muji acrylic cases for years now and although I've always possessed my fair share of cosmetics, nearly two years of beauty blogging have taken my collection to another level entirely.  I was at a point where every train case, pouch, spare makeup bag and tote in my house were employed to keep everything from being strewn about.  While this arrangement might have kept things neatly out of sight, it also made it incredibly difficult to quickly locate a particular item at any given point in time.  Perhaps some of you can relate...frantically searching for a particular lip color in our stash that, by the way, we have no intention of actually wearing...we just want to find it because it entered our mind and must be procured.  Whether I'm searching for an item on a cavalier whim or because I absolutely need it for a trip or imperative swatching session, too much time and energy has been wasted in the hunt...madness, indeed!

In turn, I recently decided to act upon my Muji awareness and ordered ten boxes of varying sizes to house the items I use most.  Retailing for anywhere from $15-$30 each, these boxes are made of high quality acrylic and have smooth, sturdy, transparent drawers that glide open and closed with ease.  The drawers are removable, which makes cleaning them an attainable goal and their simple, clear visage allows them to seamlessly blend in with any decor aesthetic.

Kindly scroll on for my Mujis in action...

Above: Muji 2 Drawer Small Acrylic Case on my nightstand, holding my bedtime essentials including eyeglasses and lip balm options.
Above: Here are two Five Drawer Mujis stacked together...they are holding my most frequently used lip products.  I arranged mine by brand; Le Metier de Beaute, Tom Ford and By Terry are dominating my top three drawers ; )
Above: A closeup of the Chanel, Dolce and Gabbana and Christian Dior lip color drawer.
Above: A Large Five, Three and Two Drawer with Lid schema in my spare bedroom...foundations, blushes and powders a plenty!
Above: Two Large Two Drawers (stacked on each other) and a Case for Glasses and Small Items holding eye products, foundation samples and even more powder compacts.
Above: A large Two Drawer in my bathroom for commonly used complexion products (primers, foundations, blushes and bronzers).
Bottom Line: The Muji acrylic cases have revolutionized my makeup storage.  As I continue to accrue new products, I find solace in knowing that I have sleek, minimalist, affordable options for maintaining my collection.  The Muji drawers are appropriate for all purveyors of makeup...from the casual cosmetics lover to the most ardent beauty enthusiast, there is a Muji (or multiple Mujis) for everyone. I am certain there are to be a multitude of Mujis in my future...the sanity of my collection depends on it!

What do YOU use to organize your makeup collection?  Have you tried Muji boxes?  Thoughts?! XOXO

Surratt Beauty: Video Overview and an Insane Amount of Swatches

Above: Snapshots of Surratt (L-R)...wearing the Fee Soie Lipslick, the Lip Lustre and swatches of Lipslique shades.
A couple of weeks ago during a weekend trip to Las Vegas, I had the distinct privilege of swatching many of the products from the freshly debuted Surratt Beauty line, currently sold exclusively at Barney's NY.  Created by famed makeup artist Troy Surratt, this line features clean lines, stunning colors and a Japanese-infused aesthetic that embraces simplicity, utility and sheer gorgeousness!

The products that I currently own include:

    1. Surratt Lipslique: An immensely hydrating, pigment rich "lipstick alternative" that applies sheer but is buildable to medium coverage.  I own Fee Soie (a pale, slightly coral sugar pink) and Gamine (a nude, peach, pink hybrid).  Close up swatches of these shades to come soon!

    2. Surratt Artistique Blush: This finely milled powder comes in a delightfully petite sliding case (see video for more on this!) and boasts intense pigmentation, an invisible texture and significant lasting power.  I own Guimauve, a light, bright baby pink that yields a very believable rosy flush.

    3. Surratt Moderniste Lip Pencil: A luxe retractable lip pencil that glides on with ease and provides an excellent base for the lip color to come.  I own Faire La Bise, a mid-toned nude with beige and neutral pink leanings that is the perfect companion for my cadre of pinky nudes.

    4. Surratt Lip Lustre: Truly, a lipgloss of epic proportions!  This moisturizing, pigmented formula is endlessly comfortable yet sticky enough to stay put.  It is cushiony, plush, looks beautiful over lip color and fabulous alone. One swipe yields sheer color and a couple of coats creates a super shiny, opaquely tinted lip that lasts for hours.  I currently own Coquette (a creamy nude baby pink),  Soigne (a medium, neutral, slightly shimmery rosy pink) and Teint (a creamy white with no shimmer...designed to lighten any lip color...incredible!) and know that there will be more of these gems in my future!

Kindly scroll on for my video overview, additional images swatches of the Surratt Beauty Smokey Eye Batons, Surrealiste Skin Concealer, Automatique Lip Crayon, Lip Lustre, Lipslique and Modernist Lip Pencil and the Bottom Line...

Above: The brand new Surratt Beauty display at Barney's NY in Las Vegas...the counter was still awaiting the arrival of certain products, as one might ascertain ; )

Above: The Surratt Beauty Automatique Lip Crayons and Lip Lustres, just beseeching to be swatched.
Above: Swatches of all shades of the Smokey Eye Batons.
According to the Barney's website, the Surratt Beauty Smokey Eye Baton is:

Smokey eyes demystified. Creamy liner with matching satiny eyeshadow. Smoldering, edgy, and seductive.
Designed in a sleek and slim case, the Smokey Eye Baton fits perfectly into even the smallest evening clutch. Double-sided, this baton includes a retractable creamy eyeliner on one end and a twist-off, blendable, light-reflective shadow pencil on the other end.

Vapeur Mauve is a deep, dark purple.
Nuit d' Orage is a deep navy.
Cendres is a uniquely opaque, creamy light taupe.
Fumee Brun is a dark brown.
Fumme Noir is a stunning black.

I will be picking up Cendres and Vapeur Mauve next week ; )

Above: Swatches of all shades of the Surrealiste Skin Concealer.
According to the Barney's website, the Surrealiste Skin Concealer

Adheres to skin perfectly and wears beautifully. Flawless correction. Complete coverage. Eight diverse shades.
During my swatching session, I noted that it felt silky and smooth and melded into my skin with ease!  I think I would likely be shade #3 or #4

Above: Swatches of all shades of the Automatique Lip Crayon.
According to the Barney's website, the Automatique Lip Crayon is:

A collection of perfect reds. Heavy on pigment, light on lips. Non-drying, matte finish; suede-like formula.

I have my eye on Deep in Vogue...something about its soft, deep purple hue is definitely calling my name!

Above: All shades of the Lip Lustres.
According to the Barneys website, the Surratt Beauty Lip Lustre is:

Gloss grows up. Sheer yet long-wearing. Creamy and moisturizing. Unique flexible applicator provides a painterly finish. Application made easy with a custom-designed silicone flocked spatula.

As aforementioned both in writing and the video, I adore the three shades I have and will likely pick up Nudite and Amethyste soon ; )

Above: Swatches of all shades of the Lip Lustres.
Above: Swatches of the Lipsliques Round I.
The Lipsliques are initially what compelled my foray into this line and, as you may have guessed, I have no regrets! According to the Barney's website, the Surratt Beauty Lipsliques are:

An alternative to lipstick. Versatile and beautiful. Luscious texture, buildable color. Sheer to medium finish. Applicator is propel-only and does not retract. Be sure to propel accordingly with use as to not crush the lipstick with lid when closing.

Fee Soie and Gamine are utterly gorgeous and Bon Bon will hopefully be next to join the family!

Above: Swatches of the Lipsliques Round II.
Above: Swatches of all shades of the Moderniste Lip Pencil.
According to the Barney's website, the Surratt Beauty Moderniste Lip Pencil is:

Border-ing on perfection. Lends balance and symmetry. Smooth with no drag. Built-in lip brush and sharpener. Propels and retracts with use.

Faire La Bise has the perfect amount of neutral depth and tone for all of pinky nudes and Tendere Baiser would be a marvelous option for those who gravitate towards beiges and browns.

Above: Me and Barney's Beauty Specialist George, who was a wonderful companion during my Surratt swatching session.
Bottom Line: The Surratt Beauty line is such a refreshing addition to the beauty landscape.  I adore its restrained, modern and tasteful aesthetic and am beyond impressed by its ability to compel me covet every single item in the collection.  I hope to meet the mastermind of the line, Troy Surratt, sometime in the near future and highly recommend the sales people that have helped me thus far.  An excursion to Barney's on Black Friday will hopefully enable me to add some Smokey Eye Batons, Brow Pomade, powder and liquid liner to my collection and, as always, swatches and full reviews will follow!  If you are interested in ordering by phone directly from the Beverly Hills Barney's NY, Haley Van Cleave, who is the Surratt Beauty Business Manager, is an utterly excellent resource (310/276-4400 ext. 5598)! Have a ball choosing products from the line and please tell her that the Beauty Professor sent you ; )

Above: Three new skincare acquisitions from Kanebo Sensai, Perricone MD and Orlane Paris.
For the start of what I suspect will be an insanely busy week, I wanted to highlight some gorgeous skincare items I've been trying as of late.  I love that fact that all three products can be seamlessly integrated into my current skincare routine

    1. Kanebo Sensai Skin Focus Corrector: This retractable balm, which retails for $38, can be applied to the fine lines of orbital area and anywhere else your skin needs refinement and hydration.  It smoothing texture also softens the look of pores and unevenness with a single swipe.  If you are looking to perfect your visage in a matter of moments, this topical wonder is definitely worth a try!

    2. Perricone MD Blue Plasma Orbital: Harnessing the power of Salmon Egg Extract, Licorice and Bio-Plankton (just to name a few of the most unexpected and venerable skincare ingredients in existence), this eye treatment gently encourages hydration, de-puffing and cell turnover without the slightest bit of irritation.  I have been wearing this day and night and am impressed by how smooth the corners of my eyes have become.  The 0.5 fl. oz. jar retails for $65, which is beyond affordable in the high end eye gel/cream world!

    3. Orlane B21 Extraordinaire Youth Reset: This ultra-luxe serum hasn't officially debuted online, however, I've had the privilege of trying it for the past couple of weeks.  The French line Orlane Paris is known for its cutting-edge approach to anti-aging skincare and this formula, which retails for $250, does not disappoint.  Here's what Orlane says about B21 Extraordinare:

For the first time, an exclusive complex resets cells. It targets all the factors that cause problems within the cell and sets the clock back. Cells regain all their energy and function as they did in youth; the skin can benefit fully from the essential elements provided to construct its collagen and its body.
The action of the 21 essential amino acids extracted from (organic) Pale Iris stem cells, obtained using biotechnology techniques, is optimized. They are the building blocks of every protein, helping to build younger, denser skin.
I am impressed by its excruciatingly silky texture and ability to refine my skin with every overnight application and the before and after photos provided by Orlane are astounding (will post soon!). I will continue to use it in conjunction with my Kanebo Sensai Cellular Performance Wrinkle Repair Cream (day) and Amore Pacific All Day Balancing Skincare Serum (night) and look forward to charting the results!
    _________________________________________________________________________________

Skincare is challenging to assess in writing, chiefly because everyone's skin is different and properly testing an item should take four to six weeks.  That being said, I love to keep my readers in the loop regarding what I am dabbling in, even if I am not at a point of giving my final impressions!  I will definitely report back in a few more weeks regarding my culminating thoughts.

Good things ahead on the blog...Napoleon Perdis glosses, a new shade from Lipstick Queen, an anti-aging pillowcase (!), a video featuring Jouer products and the first ever Beauty Professor Holiday Shopping Guide (this will be BIG!).  Also, if you didn't get the chance on Saturday, please take a peek at my overview post of the gorgeous Surratt Beauty line...a video + copious amount of swatches, just for you!

Napoleon Merci Lip Gloss Collection...Luxury Fit for An Emperor!

The impending holidays (is Thanksgiving really only a day away??) have begotten a plethora of lovely collections from some of my favorite lines.  To start, Napoleon Perdis Beauty (my interview with Napoleon can be found HERE) recently released a bevy of Napoleon Bonaparte-inspired products that meld the emperor's luxury of the past with modern textures and colors.  Behold the Merci Lipgloss Collection, which retails for $39 and features five luscious glosses in varying hues of peach, pink and nude (each named after one of Napoleon's senior makeup artists).

Kindly scroll on for product images, swatches and pictures of the glosses on the lips...

Above: The swirly tubes of gloss are a veritable feast for the eyes!
Above: Swatches of all shades in natural indoor lighting.  Note the pigmented jelly-cream finish!

    • Rebecca is a rich, deeply pigmented bright pink with wine undertones
    • Anna is a medium nude peach.
    • Casey is a pale peachy pink
    • Kate is a light to medium cool bubblegum pink
    • Yannia is a bright dark peach, borderlining on a rusty orange nude.
**These shades do not have shimmer...I would classify them as a sheer (but pigmented) jelly cream formula with a delightfully non-sticky texture and invigorating citrus scent.  I envision these looking glossily gorgeous on all skin tones!

    Above:  alone on the lips.
Above: Anna alone on the lips.

Above: Casey alone on the lips.
Above: Kate alone on the lips.
Above: Yannia alone on the lips.

Above and below: A combination of Casey and Kate on the lips...this duo yields the perfect juicy peachy pink hue!

Bottom Line: The Napoleon Perdis Merci Lip Gloss Collection is simply scrumptious and makes the perfect gift for lip product lovers! The gel formula effortlessly moisturizes lips and all five shades are completely wearable, spanning the spectrum from delicately sheer (Casey) to decadently pigmented (Rebecca).  I have been enjoying a Casey/Kate combination for a juicy peachy pink look and, in sum, appreciate the variation that this collection enables...highly recommended!

    COLOR...For the Makeup Lover

    • Kanebo Sensai Cellular Performance Cream Foundation: I’ve lauded the many merits of this supreme formula and am happy to report that the recently released US version (swatches of every shade soon) is equally effective.  This is a must for all foundation lovers! Reviewed HERE.

Above: Kanebo Sensai Cellular Performance Cream Foundation.
    • By Terry Ombre Blackstar in Bronze Moon #4: Silky full coverage? The most perfect shiny taupe? Creaseless performance for the entire day? If you or someone you know are in the market for these qualities in a single eye product, then this little gem must be procured...for it is truly the best.
Above: Swatches of By Terry Ombre Blackstar Bronze Moon.
    • Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder Palette: This trio of powders adds dimension, refinement and glow to the face...I love that there are an endless supply of options in a single compact and think this is one of the very best offerings from the venerable Hourglass line.

Above: The Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder Palette.
    •  Jouer Lipcolor in Sophia: As a perennially nude lip color lover, my receptivity to red lipstick is limited at best.  However, I have found "my red" in Jouer Sophia, a warm nude-toned red that is bright while still being subtle overall.  I may not wear it daily, but this shade never leaves my makeup bag, on reserve for those moments when only red will do! Reviewed HERE.

    Above: All things Jouer Sophia.
    • Marc Jacobs Highliner Gel Crayon: In my opinion, this eyeliner is the standout formula in the Marc Jacob line, which debuted this summer.  They deposit smooth, rich color, are indelible once they set (in seconds!), and wear extremely well along the waterline.  Taupy-brown Ro(cocoa) and jet black Blacquer are my favorites. Reviewed HERE.
Above: Swatches of Marc Jacobs Blacquer and Ro(Cocoa)
    • Lipstick Queen Velvet Rope Lipcolor in Star System: From the luxe gold case, reminiscent of glamorous days gone by to the pigment-saturated, full coverage formula, this decadent lipstick is sure to please.  Star System is a pinky, nude peach that makes the lips look velvety soft and alluring.  I’m ready for my close up Mr. DeMille...
Above: The pristine Lipstick Queen Star System...a true luminary.
    • Rouge Bunny Rouge Nocturnal Ink: Liquid liner is an endless pursuit...European line Rouge Bunny Rouge latest release offers a solution with their satin liners that have an easy to wield felt tip for cat eyes and tight lining in three covetable shades...I’ve been wearing the black-meets-brown-meets-khaki nonstop as of late. Reviewed HERE.
    Above: All things Nocturnal Ink.
    • Le Metier de Beaute Kaleidoscope in Carnaby Street: For the lids, I tend to gravitate towards a single wash of color, but when I am feeling creative, this 1960’s London-inspired quartet utilizes rich taupe, warm peach, sophisticated matte purple and a stunning peacock blue, all nestled into a single cylindrical compact.  Together, the shades are brilliantly harmonious....reviewed HERE.
Above: LMdB Carnaby Street, resplendent in the sunshine.
    •  Chantecaille Faux Cils Mascara: This rosewater-infused formula sweeps on the darkest black pigment, building lashes to their full potential.  Two coats and mine are long, lush and ready to face the day.  Smudging and flaking are thing of the past and the natural ingredients are great for sensitive eyes.
    • Tom Ford Shade and Illuminate: I bought my first S & I exactly a year ago while shopping in San Francisco...initially, I wasn’t sure how often I’d use it but in twelve months of possession, rarely a day goes by without me employing the use of this creamy, believable contour.  Applied with an angled brush, it’s chisel and cheekbones in a compact! Reviewed HERE.
    • Surratt Lipsliques: Fee Soie’s hyper-moisturizing sugar pink glow (with slight coral leaning) is utterly entrancing.  Those who adore nude lipstick need this in their lives. This entire line is beyond exciting...take a peek and ordering something for the beauty lover who “already has everything”  An overview of the line HERE.
Above: Wearing Surratt Beauty Fee Soie on the lips.
    • Koh Gen Do Aqua Foundation Illuminator: Since receiving this little bottle of liquid light, I simply cannot stop using it.  The delicate rose gold beige tone blends with any foundation, leaving healthy, radiant skin in its wake!  Reviewed HERE.
Above: Swatches of the KGD Illuminator in Sheer Beige.

LUXE SPLURGE...When Money Is No Object

Above: The La Prairie Eye and Lip Compact...luxury embodied.

      • Quasar MD Plus: This anti-aging red light laser offers the most effective at-home treatment possible and the increased collagen production and reduction of fine lines and wrinkles in my face are making this investment entirely worthwhile. Reviewed HERE.
      • Serge Lutens Compact Foundation Powder: Perhaps the most expensive powder I have purchased to date, this finely milled formula is pure finery.  I love the sleek case and exclusivity...for the woman who already owns every other powder on the face of the planet. Swatched and Reviewed HERE.
Above: All things Serge Lutens Powder Foundation-related.

        MEN...Guys Need Products, Too

        • Tom Ford Hydrating Lip Balm: Tom Ford’s Mens Skincare line debuted but a couple of months ago (close up and detailed review soon), blending a masculine edge with skincare staples.  My husband, who uses lip balm multiple times a day, loves this.

Above: The Tom Ford lip balm.
        • Kiehls Facial Fuel: For the man in your life who might only imbibe in high-end skincare if it looks and feels “manly,” the Facial Fuel is a sure bet.  This serum acts as a moisturizer, toner and (gasp!) anti-aging product, streamlining efforts while still remaining effective.  ALL the men in my immediate family use this!
        • Laura Mercier Secret Finish Mattifying: Great for any guy who may not be as in pursuit of the “dewy look” as we women are, a couple of dabs from this low-profile brown tube keeps oil at bay for hours.  I just bought my husband his second!
        Above: Laura Mercier Mattifying Gel.

        GADGETS...The Future Is Now:

        • Clarisonic: What can I say about this award-winning device that hasn’t already been said?  How about that I bought my traditional version nearly five years ago and, aside, from replacing the brush head ($25) every three months or so, it is the “gift to self” that keeps on giving. I keep mine in the shower to “wash off the day” every night and benefit from smoother, healthier, more even skin.
        • Clarisonic Pedi: The quintessential Clarisonic for the feet, this smoothing set has the fortitude to reverse my rough soles and callouses (I have a major problem with this thanks to heredity and a penchant for high heels) with a three-minute treatment.  I was skeptical, but my baby-smooth feet have made me a believer.
Above: The Clarisonic Pedi Set (full review + video soon)
        • Illuminage Pillowcase: A silky pillowcase infused with copper to create an anti-aging effect?  Yes, please!  This space-age wonder fights wrinkles while you sleep...what could be better? I am currently using this nightly and am impressed with the effects thus far.
Above: The luxe Iluminage Pillowcase.  Full review soon!
TRINKETS & TREASURES...Sometimes the Small Things Are the Best:
        • Jouer Sparkle and Shine Holiday Favors: Each delightful party popper houses a mini gloss, hair clip, hair elastic, wish necklace and party blower...what a delightful way to embrace this joyous season!
Above: The Jouer Sparkle and Shine Favor.
        • Seth Wegter Bags Makeup Bags: Made of luxe leather and vegan textiles, these durable, stunning,  fully-lined cosmetic pouches embody the notion of style and substance.  I adore my snake (lamb)skin pouch...it never leaves my handbag.
Above: My Seth Wegter Bags lambskin snake makeup bag = LOVE.
        • Beauty Blender: I avoided the boarding the Beauty Blender Train for years, dismissing the little pink egg as some sort of frivolous hype.  I have learned, however, that this has revolutionized my foundation application.  Nothing is better.
        • Le Metier de Beaute Nail Polishes: Housed in square bottles that remind me of oversized gems, this formula is one of the glossiest indulgences in town.  I adore Cocoa Me Crazy, a creamy grayish beige that lasts for days on end.
        Above: LMdB Cocoa Me Crazy.
        • Any jewelry from Loren Stewart and Hitchcock Madrona...I adore these independent lines for the high-end materials (gold, silver, diamonds) and classic yet edgy aesthetic.  The pieces are unique and timeless...it might be time to add to my collection ; ) Below is my HM Shield Necklace (I never take it off) and my Loren Stewart Itsy ID Bracelet (also, permanently on my wrist alongside my beloved Cartier Love bracelet).

        HOME...There's No Place Like It
        • NEST Holiday Home Spray: If the constraints of this world were lifted allowing the very essence of Christmas could be bottled up, I believe would smell like exactly like this home spray.  A single press of the atomizer evokes everything good about this season!
        Above: NEST Holiday Room Spray...intoxicating.
        • NEST Opulence Candle by Ken Downing: As the name would imply, this takes the notion of a holiday candle to another level...orchid, sandalwood, plum and amber work in harmony to create the richest, most luxurious winter months candle ever. I’ll be burning this for months to come.

        • Threshold Faux Fur Throw: I received this plush furry blanket as a gift earlier this year and am delighted that they are still available at Target.  It is large enough to envelop you in instant warmth and comfort...beginning this month, mine will be a permanent fixture again.  Couple this with a crackling fireplace and there may never be a reason to leave home ever again.
Above: In the holiday spirit and ready to brave the Black Friday masses!
Bottom Line: I firmly believe that Thanksgiving is a time for being grateful...family, friends, food and the ability to celebrate our blessings in freedom; the fact that it leads into a massive day of shopping, however, I suppose is inevitable!  I truly hope that this basically beauty-oriented shopping guide is helpful for you as we spend the next few weeks attempting to find the perfect gifts for our loved ones...I cannot wait to hear what you ended up with after Black Friday/Cyber Monday and which gift ideas might have been helpful for you!

          xoxo,
