The Latest: A Beauty Professor Update and BP on the NM Blog

Happy Friday, lovelies!  It's been a crazy past few weeks at Beauty Professor HQ.  In late-October, I accidentally spilled an entire bottle of water in my work bag on while driving to do an afternoon lecture.  This calamity destroyed the hard-drive--and subsequently all of my files and images--on my trusty MacBook Air and left me reeling.  Fortunately, a home back up of most of my documents allowed me to recover the necessities (after about a week of serious stress and relative helplessness) and I should get the last of my pictures from the computer shop later on today.  In the interim, I have learned a lot--both about technology and about myself--during this uncomfortable process.

First, it is absolutely terrifying to think about how much of one's life can be invested in an inanimate object; from syllabi and projects to blog posts and images, a profound sector of my day to day existence was invested in my now-defunct machine.  Next, it is amazing how resilient one can be in the face of serious frustration; don't get me wrong, I had a few moments of sincere panic and shed some authentic tears over the whole debacle, but in the end, I realized that, in order to move forward, I had to let go of the information lost (in case it wasn't recovered...and some of it wasn't) and live on, continuing to uphold my commitments and create content for Beauty Professor and the other outlets for which I write. It's been tough, indeed, but I feel stronger coming out the other side! Oh, and I'll be backing up every document I create from this point forth in three different ways ; )

Between the computer issue, a few unexpected camera problems, a fall cold and a host of meetings (both for the blog and for my tenure process at the college), it's been a wild ride as of late. That being said, I wanted to share my most recent story for the Neiman Marcus blog, all about how to indulge in luxury during this busy season--you can read the full postHERE (please comment if you swing by!) and I've linked the products to my respective reviews on BP below.

Kindly scroll on for more details as well as the Bottom Line...

Bottom Line: I hope you enjoyed this life update and quick overview of my latest Neiman Marcus blog story and would love to hear what is going on in your life! Have YOU ever lost the data from your computer or phone?  How did you deal with it?  Do please share...

As I continue to catch up from the challenges of this past month, I will be working on addressing each of your latest emails and comments, both here and on Instagram...please know I read each and every one and am consistently heartened by your support!

xx and have a beautiful weekend,

Nordstrom Beauty gift ideas.
Rife with a vast selection of brands, the Nordstrom beauty department ranks amongst my favorites.  Consequently, I am excited to share a beauty-centric gift guide, featuring suggestions from Nordstrom; from skincare to lip color, I've personally tried (and love) each product discussed...there is sure to be a befitting idea for every beauty lover on your list!

Kindly scroll on for more details, swatches and images of the gift guide in action as well as the Bottom in Line...
Sunlit splendor.
For a streamlined experience with this particular gift guide, I separated my suggestions into different categories: Skincare, Foundation + Illuminators, Fragrance, Palettes for the Face and Eyes, Eye Details and Lip Color.

// SKINCARE //

// FOUNDATION + ILLUMINATORS // A perfected canvas makes all subsequent makeup look better...give the gift of base.
  • *Lancome Cushion Highlighter: A Nordstrom exclusive, this glittering cushion compact possesses a subtly gleaming cream highlighter that becomes one with the skin in seconds. The neutral pearly pink shade is sure to compliment a spectrum of skin tones.
  • *Tom Ford Shimmer Shot in Spin Spin Sugar(reviewed HERE): Cleverly housed in an airtight pump bottle, this platinum golden beige liquid highlighter can be mixed into foundation  (like the *Tom Ford Waterproof Foundation/Concealer belowfor inherent radiance or applied atop makeup for a more pronounced glow.
  • *Tom Ford Waterproof Foundation/Concealer(all shades swatched and reviewed HERE): This foundation is truly exceptional; the full coverage formula can be used all over the face for a flawless finish or in isolated sections (as a concealer) and the lasting power is unparalleled. Impervious to heat, humidity, sweat and rain, this foundation does not budge...bravo!
  • *Kevyn Aucoin The Sensual Skin Powder Foundation: Velvety smooth with significant color payoff, this foundation powder offers medium coverage and a natural finish for no-makeup makeup days.
  • Laura Mercier Candleglow Sheer Perfecting Powder: A brand new formulation, this finely milled yet pigmented powder evens skin tone while adding an incandescent glow that makes skin look lit from within. For reference, #2 is a great match for my N/NC 23-27 skin.
  • La Mer Concealer(all shades swatched and reviewed HERE): Creamy and potent, this skin-loving formula smites signs of dark circles and blemishes without creasing.

// FRAGRANCE // Scents that transcend and transform...the Nordstrom Scent Event (free gift with $125 purchase) is happening this minute.
  • *Maison Margiela Replica By the Fireplace(reviewed HERE): I'd be hard pressed to identify a fragrance that is more well-suited to the season than By the Fireplace; smoky and warm with a alluringly nostalgic base, this juice emanates winter with a sensual twist.  Also for a lighter, more feminine fragrance from the same line, I adore *Lipstick On (reviewed HERE).
  • *Maison Margiela Replica Filter Blur and *Filter Glow (reviewed HERE and HERE): This  pair of fragrance primers brilliantly add a veil of warmth (Glow) or coolness (Blur) to any fragrance subsequently applied.  For those who prefer a little alchemy with their scent pursuits, this duo is divine.

// PALETTES for the FACE + EYES // The luxury and resplendence of multi-tasking times three.
  • Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette Surreal Lighting Edit(reviewed HERE): With five incandescent shades of powder--from bronzer and blush to highlighting and finishing hues--this marbleized compact is stunning both in form and function and is sure to be a hit with chic beauty minimalists.
  • *Giorgio Armani Holiday Night Lights Palette (reviewed HERE): Boasting two layers of pure luxury, this palette features ten satin and matte shadows in the neutral golden shades of the season, two shades of skin perfecting concealer/illuminator and a translucent setting powder for  endless looks. I have been wearing this constantly.
  • Tom Ford Soleil Eye and Cheek Palette (shown in Warm and reviewed HERE): Opulence incarnate, this palette--housed in a white and gold lacquered compact--is replete with a pinky coral blush, four glimmering neutral shadows and a champagne highlighter for a full face in seconds. After buying one for myself, I picked one up for my mom and gave it to her early so she could enjoy it through the holiday season...so worth it.

// EYE DETAILS // Clean and simple with major impact, this trio is a must.
  • *Lancome Grandiose Extreme Mascara(reviewed HERE): Dramatically long, dark and voluminous lashes are two coats away; this formula resists smudging, flaking and migrating while creating a fluttering fringe effect with deep intensity.
  • *Tom Ford Fiber Brow Gel (all four shades swatched and reviewed HERE): My favorite brow product to date, this tinted gel adds depth and dimension to brows, filling in sparse spots while increasing immense hold, lift and polish that stays in place the duration of the day.
  • *Clinique Take the Day Off Eye Makeup Remover Stick: For moments when an "eye makeup reset" is in order, this genius, pocket-sized stick allows for easy removal with precision.  Every makeup lover needs one.

// LIP COLOR // Pale pinks and jewel tones in various finishes--from sheer and glossy to matte full coverage--never disappoint!
  • *Tom Ford Lips & Boys 2016 Collection(all shades swatched and reviewed HERE): This latest round of stunning and unique shades in matte, cream and metallic finishes are clutch-sized perfection.  Some of my favorites include the matte orange Cristiano, iridescent hot pink Logan and metallic plum Elliot (worn at the end of this story).
  • Chantecaille Matte Chic Lipstick in Suzy: I picked up this creamy matte liquid lip color on a whim and am over the moon for its velvety texture and extreme opacity. Quick tip: although Suzy looks extremely pale in the tube, give it a second to warm to the lips...it develops into a gorgeous nude pink in about 20 seconds.
  • *Clé de Peau Beauté Lip Color Palette I and II: These LE jewel boxes feature an artistic, lacquered case and three lip color options within: a full coverage lipstick, satin finish hue and glossy topcoat in coordinating color palettes that capture the joy of the season. The second level cleverly holds a lip brush for application on the go.
  • *Sisley-Paris Photo-Lip Twist Balm(reviewed HERE): Everyone needs a lush and nourishing balm and this retractable wonder from Sisley-Paris is the answer; light and translucent with a buttery texture, this formula drenches lips in moisture and lasts for hours.
  • *Giorgio Armani Ecstasy Lacquer in #509 and #507(formula reviewed HERE): Two new shades for Holiday 2016, #509 is a bright warm toned pink and #507 is a light, cool-toned pearlescent pink (get this) for dazzling lips that are endlessly stained and shiny.

  • *Touch in Sol Metallists Liquid Foil and Glitter Eye Duos in Eldora and Adelio (reviewed HERE): These duos are superb...the foil effect is smooth and crease-resistant and the glitter topper is finely milled enough to stay in place for hours. I love mixing the reddish bronze Adelio with the ultra gold Eldora for a rose gold result.
  • *Tom Ford Fiber Brow in Taupe (reviewed HERE): Still my favorite brow product to date, this grooms, polishes and fills in sparse areas in seconds and lasts until you take it off.
  • *Kaplan MD Lipliner in Nautral (reviewed HERE): A perfect nude pink, this lip liner is creamy, water-resistant and matches all of my nude lipstick hues; it's totally worth the pursuit.
  • *GrandLASH Mascara: I've been experimenting with this mascara for a week or so and love the dark, volumized and lengthen effect it imparts. I will continue using it to chart the lash nourishing element and weigh back in next month!
  • *Nude Envie Lipstick in Mesmerize: This sublimely curated nude lip color line features seven different nude shades to compliment a spectrum of skin tones.  I adore the pinky nude cream finish of Mesmerize and my lips appreciate its hydrating formula and plush feel.  Peruse Nude Envie for nude lip color that is fresh and flattering.
  • *Giorgio Armani Ecstasy Lacquer in #507 (reviewed HERE): Constantly within an arm's reach lately, this shiny baby pink has enough opacity to be worn alone, but looks lovely over all of my pinks and nudes. Part stain, part gloss, this formula is divine and this shade is fast becoming a favorite.

              Onto the new release swatches...

Natasha Denona Star Liner in Black, Blue and Dark Violet.
I've been experimenting with the *Natasha Denona Star Liner for nearly two week and am absolutely smitten with the concept.  The two bottles, cleverly joined by a unifying square cap, contain rich liquid liner in a color-saturated shade and a coordinating glitter-infused hue. In my experience, the liner is completely waterproof once set (absolutely no smearing, smudging or flaking( and truly makes the eyes pop.  The glitter top coat is a festive spin on a traditional winged eye and, although reflective, is still demure enough to be worn in the day without crossing a dramatic line.  I have been reaching for Dark Violet constantly and am also loving the classic appeal of black.  I look forward to working with the Blue shade in the days to come and will feature an full (closed) eye look soon!

              Shades:
              • Black: Inky caviar and glittering black and silver
              • Blue: Deep indigo and glittering duo chrome blue
              • Dark Violet: Darkest purple and glittering lilac duo chrome

              Official details, courtesy of Sephora:

              What it is:
A long-lasting, two-step liquid eyeliner with a sparkle finish for brilliantly defined eyes.

              What it does:
Emphasize the lash line by giving eyes an elegantly bold look with this full-coverage, long-wear liquid liner. Once eyes are lined, glide on the step-two transparent, monochromatic liquid liner for a touch of subtle glitter. This unique combination of bold color and a hint of sparkle creates a sophisticated, smoky-eyed look.

              What it is formulated WITHOUT:
              - Parabens
              - Sulfates

              Suggested Usage:
-Apply liquid liner close to the natural lash line and wait two to three minutes for it to dry.
-Apply the liquid transparent glitter liner as the second step directly on top of the liquid base coat.

Ingredients: Liquid Liner// Water, Ammonium Acrylates Copolymer, Butylene Glycol, Methylpropanediol, Phenoxyethanol, Xanthan Gum, Caprylyl Glycol, Phenylpropanol, Simethicone, Sodium Acrylates Copolymer, [May Contain +/- :] CI 77499 [Iron Oxides], CI 77266, CI 77891 [Titanium dioxide], CI 77491 [Iron oxides]. Monochromatic Liner// Water, Polyurethane-1, Glycerin, Polyethylene Terephthalate, Phenoxyethanol, Carbomer, Tetrasodium EDTA, Sodium Hydroxide, [May Contain +/- :] CI 21108, CI 51319, Cl 73915, CI 74160, CI 74260, CI 77266, CI 77891 [Titanium Dioxide], CI 77000 [Aluminium Powder].

What else you need to know:
"I designed this product because each time I create smoky-eyed looks for clients or on models for photoshoots, I imagine adding an eyeliner to the smoky eyes with an undercover sparkle that is monochromatic. Le Metier de Beaute Lip Creme.
Nearly five years ago, I made my very first purchase from the Le Metier de Beaute line; it a tube of the *Le Metier de Beaute Lip Creme, which, for many reasons, I treasure to this day. This lip gloss is remarkable.  Creamy and gently opaque, it imparts a cellophane shine and plush color that can be worn alone or over existing lip color for even greater impact. Non-sticky and long lasting, I am partial to Riche (a perfect nude), Posh (a cool candy pink) and Flair (a translucent warm red).  I love this formula as much as I did five years ago!

              Shades
              • Aloof: Creamy pale beige
              • Riche: Tender pinky nude

Le Metier de Beaute Moisture Matte Lip Creme.
The *Le Metier de Beaute Moisture Matte Lip Creme (also reviewed HERE) has immense color payoff and a velvety, hydrating texture that envelopes lips in a cloak of long lasting pigment. The formula is lush yet weightless and wears beautifully for hours.  A few of my favorite shades include Mannequin (a quintessential nude beige), First Look (effortless and universally flattering) and Tabou (cherry red goodness). I am completely impressed with this resplendent take on the matte lip!

Official details, courtesy of Neiman Marcus:

This hybrid of a gloss and lipstick is supremely longwearing and delivers velvet, high-pigmented color. The dynamic range of color that make-up the Moisture Matte Lip Créme collection is very much a reflection of the evolution of Le Métier De Beauté. Bold, exciting colors that perfectly capture the fresh and exciting mood of our brand.

I've been traveling a great deal the past few months and, despite this frequency, packing is admittedly not my strong point.  That being said, I have found that there is a selection of skincare and beauty products that has consistently made it into my toiletries bag--regardless of where I am traveling to--and I am excited to share the list in this story.  I've also included three key style looks that took me through my most recent trip to San Francisco (initially discussed HERE).

Kindly scroll on for more details, swatches and images of the products in action as well as the Bottom Line...

              Skincare + Haircare.
              // SKINCARE + HAIRCARE //
              • Liftlab Purify + Clarify (not pictured but reviewed HERE): I've been using this cleanser for nearly three years and am still smitten with its creamy lather and light exfoliating power.  It removes every last trace of even the most pernicious makeup and when left one for a minute or two, the formula transforms into a detoxifying mask for even deeper cleansing.
              • *SK-II Facial Treatment Essence(not pictured but reviewed HERE): I have gone through bottles of this cult favorite and am consistently impressed with how it smooths, brightens and clarifies my skin.  It effortlessly and effectively integrates into an existing skincare routine and is my absolutely favorite from the SK-II line.
              • *Mila Moursi pH Balancing Toner  (reviewed HERE): One spritz virtually "re-sets" my sensitive skin, encouraging balance and making it more receptive to the skincare that follows.
              • *Mila Moursi Double Action Serum (reviewed HERE): I never want to be without this anti-aging serum; without fail, it brightens, lifts and refines my skin overnight.  As soon as I press "publish" on this post, I'll be applying two pumps and hopping into bed ; )
              • *Sisley-Paris Double Tenseur (reviewed HERE): I love how this clear primer tightens and firms skin while masterfully extending the wear of my foundation.
              • *Le Metier de Beaute Peau Vierge #2  (not pictured but reviewed HERE): Always in my routine, this lightly tinted moisturizer, illuminator and SPF is one my skin daily. No matter what.
              • *La Prairie Skin Caviar Eye Lift  (reviewed HERE): This is the eye cream I recommend on a weekly basis to anyone who asks; my mom and I both adore it for its ability to fight under eye darkness, moisturize the delicate orbital area and contribute to a more lifted appearance overall.
              • *ViaBuff: Tiny but mighty, this modern take on the loofah boasts a vast surface area for heightened efficacy and it's machine washable to keep bacteria at bay. My skin looks smoother and brighter with every use.
              • *Le Metier de Beaute Vital ET Recovery Boost Body (reviewed HERE): My post-shower ritual, this potent cream fights environmental damage while imparting restorative moisture and balance to my skin.  One application and my skin literally glows!
              • *Miracle Body Transformer Tinted Beauty Balm (reviewed HERE): One pump on my legs adds moisture, evenness, radiance and SPF; it's a perfect trifecta for shorts and skirts moments.
              • *Hampton Sun Sunless Tanning Mist (reviewed HERE): Even though the temperatures have dropped, I still keep a bottle of this sunless tanner at arm's reach as it always makes my limbs look better; additionally, the quick-drying, sheer formula is mistake-proof and application can be layered for a deeper glow.
              • *Illumai Travel Haircare Set (brand reviewed HERE): One of the most unique haircare lines I've tried to date, this clever set features travels sizes of the Illumai best sellers. The science behind this line is fascinating; the formulas only have 7 ingredients and the innovative combination synergistically cleanses hair and restores shine without stripping. My hair feels stronger and looks glossier each time I integrate Illumai into my haircare rotation.
              • *Pulleez Hair Tie: These hair ties have a novel pulley system that adds decorative flair while staying in place (no slippage whatsoever!).  I love the gold and black version for a classic take on a basic ponytail.
              • Byredo Mojave Ghost Hair Perfume (reviewed HERE): I am over the moon for Mojave Ghost and the fact that I can capture its essence and channel it into my hair (albeit, with a lighter silage) makes me infinitely happy.  Apropos as a touch up before heading out for the evening, it is more subtle than traditional fragrance but every bit as alluring.
              • *This Works Deep Sleep Pillow Spray: Sometimes it's difficult to drift off to sleep in a new environment but one spritz of this pillow spray and I am catching zzz's like crazy.  The all natural aromatherapy action is effective at encouraging a restful sleep without the side effects of a traditional sleeping aid.

              Base + Face.
              // BASE + FACE //
              • *Surratt Beauty Surreal Real Skin Foundation Wand #9 (reviewed HERE): Foundation that consistently looks like really good skin?  Yes, please! This formula can be applied sheerly and built up to medium-full coverage while still appearing nearly invisible on one's visage.  In a vast range of shades (swatched HERE), you are sure to find a perfect match.
              • *Tom Ford Waterproof Foundation/Concealer in Natural (reviewed HERE): One of my new favorite foundations of the year (sharing that spot with the Surratt above), this full coverage formula offers intense pigmentation and a truly waterproof finish that performs masterfully in heat, humidity and even rain.  I have swatches of every shade HERE.
              • *Tom Ford Shimmer Shot in Spin Spin Sugar (reviewed HERE): I enjoy mixing a pump of this gorgeous golden champagne highlighter into the TF foundation for a glowing natural satin finish that radiates skin without looking shimmery.  The combination keeps the complexion fresh for hours on end.
              • La Mer Concealer in Medium (reviewed HERE): This pale beige (quite light for a "medium" shade in my opinion, is a perfect companion for my under eye region, brightening darkness while cancelling out discoloration.
              • *BlendSmart Foundation Brush: I've been experimenting with this intriguing brush for the past couple of months and am impressed by how well it seamlessly blends foundation (even full coverage formulas) into the skin.  The genius spinning head takes all of the work out of the buffing and blending process...I love the age of automation, don't you?

              Cheeks.
              // CHEEKS //
              • By Terry Sun Designer #2 (reviewed HERE): The satisfying, serious "hitting of pan" illustrated in the picture above is a testament to how much I adore this bronzer, blush and highlighter palette.  I use the true light brown shades as a contour/bronzer and the blush side for a quick pink cheek.  I recently purchased a backup, which I'll be using soon!
              • *Surratt Beauty Artistique Blushes in Barbe A Papa, Cherubique + Coupe de Geie (reviewed HERE): This trio of luminous cheek shades are distinctly beautiful blush and highlighter options; silky and gossamer in nature, they make the cheek look "lit from within."
              • *Surratt Beauty Artistique Highlighting Brush: Insanely soft, this luxurious brush works well to blend my cheek shades and, consequently, is always in my makeup bag.

              The full face.
              For the eyes.
              // EYES //
              • Tom Ford Eye Shadow Duo in Golden Peach (reviewed HERE): Without question, my most prized eyeshadow (I have two on backup), this cream and powder duo never ceases to impress me.  It brightens the eye with a flattering veil of peachy pink golden goodness and I get asked about it at least once daily when I choose to wear it (which is quite often).  I implore you to try this while you still can.
              • *Touch in Sol Metallist in Margaret (reviewed HERE): Perhaps my favorite shade in the 5-color lineup, this warm copper pairing imparts immense foil and sparkle results without being over the top...I'll be wearing it to a Christmas party this weekend.
              • *MustaeV Eyeshadow in Julep (reviewed HERE): This pink-meets-rust shade works well to punctuate an otherwise neutral eye; the finely milled formula resists creasing and has magnificent color payoff.
              • *Tom Ford Fiber Brow in Taupe (reviewed HERE): Still my brow go-to on the daily, this brilliant formula adds color, volume, polish and hold to brows and stays put for hours.
              • *Rodial Liquid Eyeliner (reviewed HERE): I use this fine-tipped liner, which doesn't smear or migrate, to deepen my upper water line, which makes eyes pop without obvious lines.
              • *L'Oreal Voluminous Feline Noir Mascara: This ultra-black mascara extends lashes and imparts immense volume; I love it's affordability and results!
              Swatches in direct sunlight.
Tom Ford Golden Peach on the eyes...it is my unequivocal favorite for a full, crease-free eye in seconds. Armani Ecstasy Lacquer #507 on the lips.

              #foundationphile.
It is no secret that, while I love all beauty products, I have a serious weakness for exactly two things in the makeup world: foundation and nude lips.  I am on a constant quest for the best in both categories and never grow weary of the pursuit.  That being said, I am excited to share some lightweight winter foundation discoveries and nude lip color formulas in my current rotation!

Kindly scroll on for more details, swatches and images of the products in action as well as the Bottom Line...

              Lightweight base options.
Although, in order to combat dryness, winter is known as a time for embracing our heavier lotions, serums and creams, it may be the best season to implement lighter foundation formulas, especially since our skin is generally getting maximum hydration with the boost in more moisturizing skincare. "Lightweight," however, does not necessarily mean "low coverage," and I've curated a list of 14 formulas--from extremely sheer to nearly full coverage--that embody weightlessness while still being entirely buildable.

              Super sheer options.
// The Sheer // For good skin days and no makeup makeup moments.
              • *Burberry Fresh Glow Luminous Fluid Base 01 Nude Radiance: New to my collection, this illuminator has skin-perfecting pearl particles to minimize flaws while imparting a delicate glow.  Worn alone or mixed into a more matte foundation (to sheer it out and add radiance), this formula--which comes in two shades: the pale beige Nude Radiance and deeper bronze Golden Radiance--is stunningly versatile.
              • *Le Metier de Beaute Peau Vierge #2 (reviewed HERE): An unmitigated favorite for years, I never want to be without this lightly tinted moisturizer, highlighter and anti-aging SPF formula.  I wear #3 in the warmer months and wear #2 for the rest of the year.  My mom wears #2 as her only foundation year round...it's a must-have in our family!
              • Laura Mercier Candleglow Sheer Perfecting Powder #2 (reviewed HERE): Finely milled and slightly glowy, this powder offers light coverage and works well as a non-powdery touch up to even skin tone and banish shine later in the day.  #2 works well for N/NC 20-30 skin.
              Swatches in direct sunlight.
              Cream Formulas.
              // The Creams //
              • Sulwhasoo Perfecting Cushion #25 (reviewed HERE + HERE): Consistently in my rotation, this cushion foundation boasts formidable SPF and a bouncy finish that yields significant coverage. Consequently, I love using it year round.
              • *Veil Sunset Skin Foundation Medium 3N: Makeup Artist Sebastien Tardiff's gorgeous independent line, Veil, has finally released a foundation and I am thrilled.  This plush and decadent whipped formula--which can be built to medium coverage--feels entirely weightless on the skin and is excellent for HD moments as it is undetectable once blended.
              • *La Prairie Cellular Swiss Ice Crystal Transforming Cream SPF 30 (swatches of every shade +reviewed HERE): A resplendent fusion of color and skincare, this cream (which comes in 4 shades) bathes skin in moisture and anti-aging benefits while delivering natural, light-medium coverage.  I can wear both Nude (shown below) and Beige, depending on the time of the year.
              • Givenchy Teint Couture Balm Honey Beige: One of my latest acquisitions, this balm has fantastic reviews online and I am happy to add to the collection; with light-medium coverage and a creamy texture, it plays well with normal to combination skin and lasts all day.
              • Surratt Beauty Surreal Real Skin Foundation #9 (swatches of every shade reviewed HERE): Consistently in my top three foundation formulas of life, this remarkable creation's build ability ranges from light to nearly full coverage, is nearly waterproof and lasts from early morning to late night without requiring a touch up.  Oh, and I should mention that your skin simply looks like really good skin when wearing it.  Fragrance-free and marvelous for sensitive skin, I use it multiple times a week.
              • *Giorgio Armani Crema Nuda #03 (swatches of other shades reviewed HERE): Another skincare-foundation hybrid, this luxurious formula harnesses the transformative powers of the iconic Crema Nuda and fuses it with a tinted cloak of color for a brilliant no makeup makeup effect.
              Swatches in direct sunlight.
              Liquid foundation formulas.
              // The Liquids //
              • *Thalgo Silicium Anti-Aging Foundation Natural: New on my radar, this foundation features ingredients that nourish skin and fight the visible signs of aging while providing a weightless veil of medium coverage.
              • *Sisley-Paris Sisleya Le Teint in Linen (swatches of every shade + reviewed HERE): An opulent blend of skincare and beauty, this stunning foundation smoothes, lifts, brightens and conceals with one of the most exceptional textures on the market. Linen is my winter skin match!
              • Koh Gen Do Aqua Foundation #125 (swatches of every shade reviewed HERE): A long time favorite, this dreamy foundation--brimming with healing waters--works well on sensitive skin and coverage can be customized from light to medium while being HD to the naked eye.
              • *Le Metier de Beaute Afterglow Foundation #4 (swatches of every shade reviewed HERE): Gently hydrating and slightly radiant, this latest formula from LMdB creates a soft focus finish with shades that flatter a spectrum of skin tones.
              • Kevyn Aucoin The Etherealist Skin Illuminating Foundation #8 (swatches of every shade reviewed HERE): With the most initial coverage of any of the foundations mentioned in this post, this unscented liquid formula is still has a lightweight texture that allows skin to breathe.  Neither matte nor dewy, I would deem this a true natural finish.
              Swatches in direct sunlight.
              The tools.
// The Tools // The way that foundation is applied is just as important as the formula itself.
              • *Artis Golden Palm Brush (reviewed HERE): I am over the moon for this luxurious brush; designed to fit in the palm of one's hand for maximum control, the densely packed bristles buff foundation into oblivion for a seamless finish.
              • Beauty Blender: One of my favorite ways to apply foundation (like half of the world), I adore this black version as it doesn't seem to bleed any color from the sponge when being cleaned (I cannot say the same for its pink and purple predecessors) and I can get an incredible application in mere seconds. Every foundation lover needs a few of these within an arm's reach.
              • *blendSMART (reviewed HERE): My latest foundation application discovery, I am intrigued by the way the spinning brush head effortlessly distributes and buffs foundation into the skin...the process is soothing and innovative to say the least.
              Components of the full look.
// The Full Look // Just a few elements can make a profound difference in the final outcome.
              • *La Solution 10 de Chanel: Excellent for sensitive skin, this exceptional moisturizer is comprised of just 10 ingredients, catering to temperamental canvases with grace and efficacy.  I have been using it day and night as of late and deeply appreciate how balanced it makes my skin.
              • *SK-II Facial LE Treatment Essence (reviewed HERE): This cult favorite is an essential for keeping my sensitive skin smooth and clear in the winter months; the temperature fluctuations and forced air heating (in my classroom) wreak havoc on my face but the FTE--applied twice a day--maintains a happy visage nonetheless.
              • Tom Ford Winter Soleil Eye and Face Palette (swatches + review HERE): Eyes, cheeks and glow are under control in a single palette--I used the luminous and peachy eyeshadows on my eyes, focused the light coral blush on the apples of my cheeks and applied the highlighter on the high points of my face for a believable glow.  Entirely worth the splurge, I will continue to reach for this palette all winter long!
              • Chanel Rouge Allure Gloss Super Nude: Discussed in detail below, this LE glossy shade is a must for nude lip lovers.

              Nude lips on heavy rotation.
// The Nude Lip Colors // I cannot get enough of the pinky, nude, beige, peach lip color--each unique undertone and finish completely justify what would seem like a completely irrational addition to one who is not familiar with the "quest for the nude lip."
              • Chantecaille Lip Chic Suzy (reviewed HERE): A fully opaque pinky nude beige that deepens slightly upon application. So good.
              • *Tom Ford Lips & Boys Evan (reviewed HERE): My favorite nude from the latest 25 releases, this shade has depth and a velvety matte finish.
              • Clé de Peau Beauté Radiant Rouge #11 Lingerie (reviewed HERE): This trusty shade--half lip color, half gloss--is the quintessential warm nude; it wears well alone or over existing lip color for additional dimension.  Oh, and it wears comfortably for hours.
              • Marc Jacobs Le Marc Liquid Lip Creme Fawn Over Me: I was entranced by three things when I ordered this shade: (1) The shade, (2) the name and (3) the fact that is is a new lip formula in the Marc Jacobs Beauty lineup.  I am truly happy with it overall...smooth and moisturizing with insane color payoff, this peachy pink is truly nude yet wearable.
              • Marc Jacobs Le Marc Liquid Lip Creme Yours to Try: For a more dramatic take on nude lips, this pale warm beige punctuates the pout.  I will wear it over darker lip liner to get the most mileage as it is quite light (even for this unapologetic nude lip lover) but those with very fair complexions will likely have found "their nude" in this shade.
              • *Clinique Pop Matte Lip Color Cake Pop: Super pretty and very lush in texture, this classic pinky nude is hydrating and creates a full lip in seconds.  Loving this.
              • *Julie Hewett Bijoux Lipstick in Simone: My first foray into lip color by famed makeup artist Julie Hewett, I am terribly impressed by the delicate matte texture and peachy pink tone of this particular shade.  It has a nearly pearly finish that looks amazing on the lips and, believe it or not, is absolutely unique in my vast nude lip color collection.
              • *Nude Envie Mesmerize (reviewed HERE): If you are looking for a covet-worthy range of nude lip color, look no further than Nude Envie! This independent line features seven custom shades in the nude family--ranging from pale beige to cool nude pink--and the rich pinky peach Mesmerize is a personal favorite.
              • *Le Metier de Beaute Moisture Matte Lip Color in Bijox (reviewed HERE): This mauve nude features a matte finish that still feels wildly moisturizing. Consequently, this shade is always in my handbag!
              • Chanel Rouge Allure Gloss Super Nude: Purchased on a whim, I love the opaque yet glossy finish of this medium beige cream formula; there is no perceptible shimmer yet it leaves lips looking full and juicy...I wear it over a light pink lip liner for effortless lips that last all day.

The beautifying formula contains wild rose extract, which provides moisturizing benefits and regenerating properties. The skin is hydrated, protected and has a natural healthy glow.
How to use: Apply Fresh Glow all over clean face for immediate, natural radiance. To highlight and sculpt the face, apply Fresh Glow over your makeup to cheekbones, bridge of nose and chin.

                #28 Gold Shimmer.
Next is the stunning *Burberry Festive Complete Eye Palette #28 Gold Shimmer; with four shades of shimmering gold in various states of depth, this palette instantly brightens the eye without overwhelming it.  Boasting significant color-payoff and long lasting, creaseless wear, the eye shadows  blend together with ease, making it excellent for both casual daytime jaunts and more formal evening affairs.

To apply, I start with the medium gold shade (second from the left in the swatches below) and blend it over my entire eye.  I then use a mix of the top two lightest shades and sweep them up towards my brow bone for a diffused effect. A touch more of this mixture goes along my lower lash line and, to finish, I blend a bit of the darkest gold bronze shade in the crease for punctuation and definition. The final result is warm and inviting with the quintessential amount of gleam!

                Golden Eye(s).
Eye duo for a gilded glow.
A sweep of the *Burberry Festive Gold Shimmer Gold Touch--a creamy incarnation that melts into the skin while imparting a gilded foil effect--on my upper brow bones creates an incandescent orbital area.  Ultra-blendable, this formula can also be used on the cheeks and lips for a hypnotic golden glow. Simply brilliant!

                Swatches in direct sunlight.
                For the lips.
Finally, lips are cloaked with luminous gold and cheerful red tones, thanks to the plush and reflective *Burberry Kisses Lip Gloss Festive 2016 Gold Shimmer #124*Burberry Kisses Lip Gloss Festive 2016 Parade Red #117 and *Burberry Kisses Lipstick Festive 2016 Gold Shimmer #224.

The glosses are impressively moisturizing, peerlessly shiny and remarkably non-sticky.  I love wearing *Gold Shimmer #124 on bare lips for a touch of radiance that brings out the luster of one's natural lip color. *Parade Red #117 is exceptional! This muted, shimmer-free crimson is effortless to wear and can be built from sheer to nearly full coverage in a couple of weightless and flattering coats...it, along with the Festive Complete Eye Palette #28 Gold Shimmer, is one of my absolute favorite pieces in the collection due to its unique tone and easy demeanor.

For a barely-there, soft wash of gold, the Gold Shimmer #224 lipstick is a befitting option...it adds a touch of dimension to naked lips and can be added atop an otherwise matte or cream formula for heightened luminosity.

Swatches of the lipstick, gold gloss and Parade Red gloss in direct sunlight.
Worn separately or mixed together, your holiday lip is under control with Burberry Kisses LE Festive shades!

There are exactly ten days until Christmas and the window to find the perfect gift for those in your life is quickly closing.  Although I'm enchanted by holiday releases as much as the next person, I tend to ultimately enjoy choosing (and receiving) presents that have a timeless utility and appeal...that is, I adore products that feel modern, fresh and useful all year long!

That being said, here are some gift ideas from Nordstrom--both for you and those for whom you shop--in the skincare, beauty and style realms that work now but will be loved and enjoyed well past the 25th.

                • *Sisley-Paris Double Tenseur (reviewed HERE): Lifting, tightening and freshening the skin with every application, this primer works well before foundation but can also be applied as a mid-day revitalizer.

                Foundation options.
// FOUNDATION // Three base options for every type of "skin day" (good, bad or otherwise) imaginable.
                • *HOURGLASS Vanish Seamless Finish Foundation Stick(all 25 shades swatched + extensively reviewed HERE): This foundation stick has immense versatility; packed with pigment, it can be applied sheerly for a barely-there skin perfecting outcome or built to full coverage while still looking insanely natural on the skin. Long wearing and waterproof, it belongs in your makeup bag! Lately, I've been experimenting with using three shades to create a balanced face; Beige is an excellent foundation match for my winter skin and then I blend the warm deep down Almond in my cheek bones and perimeters of my face as a contouring tone.  I finish with a touch of the pale, slightly warm Bisque shade on the high points of my face for a shimmer-free yet illuminating effect. The trio are effortlessly blendable and the final result is a must for minimalist beauty lovers who treasure a flaw-free canvas.

                Official details:

What it is: A revolutionary foundation stick with the coverage of a concealer, the fluidity of a liquid and the weightlessness of a powder in a long-wearing waterproof formula.
Who it's for: Anyone who wants undetectable full coverage and a seamless, satin finish.
What it does: Its unprecedented concentration of pigment provides maximum coverage with minimum product, concealing all discoloration and imperfections for virtually perfect skin. How to use: This versatile foundation stick can be used in a multitude of ways, from sheer to full coverage, to contour and highlight and to conceal imperfections.
                - For full-coverage: Prep your skin with a primer. Dot three triangular dots in the center of both sides of your face—three dots on the chin, three dots on the tops of the cheekbones and three dots on the forehead. Buff with the Vanish Seamless Finish Foundation Brush (sold separately) in tiny circular motions for the best coverage. To use as a concealer, dot three triangular dots under each eye and blend using a stippling and buffing motion.
                - For sheer-to-medium coverage: Prep your skin with a primer. Lightly dot the foundation where needed, such as on your chin, forehead and the center of your face. Buff in with your brush using tiny circular motions. To use as a concealer, lightly dot under your eyes as needed and blend with your ring finger using a gentle tapping motion.
                - To contour: Choose 1-2 shades deeper than your natural skin tone. Dot three triangular dots under your cheekbones, along the sides of the nose, at the temples of your forehead and along the jawline. Blend with your brush in a stippling and circ

Sulwhasoo Perfecting Cushion Brightening Foundation is a multifunctional, portable, lightweight cushion foundation that goes beyond long-lasting coverage while giving you a flawlessly satin, soft, matte finish. Inspired by the radiance of blossoming magnolia flowers, it's formulated with magnolia extract, a skin-brightening ingredient that reduces the appearance of discoloration and promotes more even-looking skin.

A Pearlescent Complex, created from extra-fine pearl powders, gives skin an immediately luminous look, while the brand's unique purified water with licorice extract further purifies your skin so that it appears clearer and cleaner. Your complexion is left flawlessly clear and even with an appearance that looks brilliant immediately and over time.

Then, using a stamping technique, pat the puff with foundation onto your skin evenly, starting from the middle of your face and moving outward. For more coverage, apply another layer onto the areas that need it. Use daily in the morning after your skin care regimen. Reapply throughout the day for sun protection.

In a holiday state of mind with my brother Seth's dog, Jasper.
The older the get, the less I want in terms of gifts from others...don't get me wrong, I genuinely appreciate receiving gifts on holidays and birthday; it's just that when someone asks me what I want, I rarely have an answer, thereby generally yielding a healthy round of gift cards rather than a tangible object.

More often then not, self-gifting makes the most sense at this point in my life; that is, when I receive a gift card, I love the freedom of being able to choose exactly what I am in the mood for and, in turn, guarantee that the product is a perfect match for my skin tone, style and sensibilities.

Consequently, this post is dedicated to some of my favorite foundation formulas, lip color options, eye color choices and face palettes...hopefully this swatch-heavy breakdown will serve as self-gifting inspiration for those of you who feel the same as I do!

Get Ready with Me: Winter Edition.
After a much longer than planned hiatus from making videos, I am so happy to return with a quick "get ready with me" tutorial. Casual, chatty and minimally-edited, it's under 15 minutes, which may be some kind of record for me!

Thank you to those of you who have checked in to see where I have been...truly, it was your encouragement that inspired me to create on YT again. This everyday look is quick and simple, making it perfect for running errands and going out to dinner alike.

All products involved are tried, tested and true, perform well in cold weather and are compact enough to be purse friendly for touch ups on the go. Do you spy any personal favorites in the mix?

                  • Ragdoll LA Vintage Terry Sweatshirt: I am so glad I ordered this sweatshirt as it is entirely neccesary.  It can be dressed up with a skirt or dressed down (as demonstrated above).  Super versatile and on sale!
                  • Onzie Shiny Black High Waist Leggings: These shiny black leggings have a liquid look that mimics leather while being infinitely more comfortable.
                  • Vintage Trench Coat...similar style HERE: I purchased the trench worn in these images nearly a decade ago and it's timeless appeal has served me well.  I now have my eye on the FRAME Denim version...it's likely what I'll devote my Christmas gift cards to ;)
                  • Stan Smith Adidas: These classics work well with jeans, leggings and even dresses...my dad wore them during my formative years and I am happy to carry on the tradition.

After 12 months and 131 swatch-laden posts, I am feeling a bit of triumph as I type the last Beauty Professor story of 2016. This year has brought incredible opportunities as well as life challenges, the most recent being a temporary loss of my computer hard drive (discussed HERE) and a week-long battle with the most pernicious flu I've ever had (still sick).

Ever an optimist, some high points for which I am grateful include a new tenure-track teaching position (discussed HERE), a month-long collaboration with Sisley-Paris, an appearance in Vanity Fairefeature on the Beautylish site, serving as MC for a host of beauty events (discussed HERE, HERE and HERE), a decent round of travel (discussed HERE, HERE and HERE) and my regular column on the Neiman Marcus blog.  All in all, I am abundantly grateful for how this passion project--spawned by my shameless love of luxury beauty--has grown into a community of incredible readers and followers...in other words, YOU!

Remaining in true BP form, this post features my latest end-of-the-year beauty discoveries, some style notes and some Nordstrom Half-Yearly sale points of interest to peruse.

Kindly scroll on for more details, swatches and images of the products in action as well as a brief shopping guide and the Bottom Line...

                  Skincare etc.
                  // SKINCARE ETC. //
                  • *SLIP Silk Queen Pillowcase: This 100% silk pillowcase embodies pure bedtime luxury; designed to be kind to skin (no hideous face dents) and keep hair from tangling, I've put it to the test this month and can confirm that I consistently wake up with smoother, more behaved hair.
                  • *Lancer The Method Polish(reviewed HERE): A favorite for years, my supply of this powerful exfoliant was recently replenished, much to my delight. The ultra-fine granules buff away dirt and dead skin without imposing irritation and the renewed radiance that is revealed is simply incandescent.
                  • *Tan-Luxe The Face: An innovative self-tanning discovery, this potent little vial allows one to create a customized glow; just one drop, mixed into moisturizer develops a subtle tan that can be intensified when quantities and frequency are increased. Brilliant!
                  • *Vita Liberata Body Blur: Lightly tinted with a glorious pearl finish, this body cream hydrates while blurring imperfections and evening skin tone, making limbs lush and lovely.
                  • *Kerastase Elixir Ultime Nourishing Hair Oil: This lightweight hair oil makes hair infinitely shiny while restoring healthy hydration levels...I love using it post-shower as a detangler as well.
                  • *Alterna Caviar Smoothing Hydra-Gelee Nourishing Hair Perfector: Designed to impart immense smoothness and moisture, just a single pump tames my hair, adding dimension and manageability.
                  • *RMS Nail Polish in Luminizer, Killer Red and Beloved (also available as an exclusive set at RMS--similar colors include Infamous, Luminizer X and Vicious): This nail lacquer has exemplary ingredients and a color-rich lasting finish that makes nails shiny and strong.  I have a personal weakness for the pearly white Luminizer and Luminizer X shades--they make nails look clean and polished (pun intended) and match simply everything.

                  Foundation.
                  // FOUNDATION //
                  • *Maybelline Dream Cushion #30 Warm Nude: A beautiful and accessible foundation, this new formula from Maybelline utilizes cushion technology for medium coverage and a satin finish that lasts for hours.
                  • *Stila Aqua Glow Serum Foundation in Light-Medium: I have been playing with this foundation for the past couple of weeks and am impressed by its lightweight texture and medium coverage.  Unscented and easy to apply with a dampened Beauty Blender, it plays well on my sensitive skin (worn at the end of this post) and wears effortlessly. Wearing it as I type this!
                  • *TOV Camellia Cooling CC Spray in Natural Beige: Intriguing on every level, this CC cream is dispensed from an airtight canister (much like the mechanism in the Dior Air Flash) onto a flat blending pad for a seamless finish.  The makes skin feel cool and nourished and the light-medium coverage is marvelous for no-makeup makeup days.
                  • *Isdin Skin Drops in Sand: This fluid formula features major pigmentation that can be customized for light to full coverage in seconds. The velvety finish lasts nearly 12 hours on the skin (no joke!) and the natural satin finish is sublimely flattering.  For reference, Sand is a great warm beige match for my NC 25 skin (I think it would also work on N/NC 20 and N/NC 30 skin).  In light of this formula's customizable versatility, my only hope is that it becomes more readily available in the US in coming days!
                  • *Soleil Toujours Perpetual Radiance Tinted SPF 20 Fluid: I have been wanting to try this luxurious niche brand for ages and was excited to give the Perpetual Radiance a spin. The built-in brush dispenses a weightless tinted serum that offers skincare benefits, SPF 20 and a skin-evening glow that performs well for hours. I can't wait to take this my sun-intensive trip...more soon ; )
                  • *lilah b. Virtuous Veil Eye Primer and Concealer in B. Radiant: This seriously pigmented concealer also doubles as an eyeshadow base for smooth and flawless skin.  A little of this unique formula--which has sublimely healthy ingredients--goes a long way and its crease-free performance is laudable.
                  Swatches in direct sunlight.
                  Super unique packaging, no?

                  Face + Cheeks.
                  // FACE + CHEEKS //
                  • *Estee Lauder Intuitive Octopus Powder: Opulent and utilitarian, this diminutive bejeweled compact features a whimsical octopus; the creamy yet translucent setting powder within is so versatile...it evens skin tone and banishes shine in seconds.
                  • *Kevyn Aucoin Contour Palette (currently on sale!): Four finely-milled shades of face finishing powder in one extremely streamlined compact; the contour shade adds depth, the bronzer works well to warm up the canvas, the peachy pink blush looks fabulous on the apples of the cheeks and the champagne highlighter creates a candlelit glow.  I am wearing this in the images at the end of this post!
                  • *Laura Geller Baked Gelato Swirl Trio: Three best-selling shades of illuminator for kissed-by-light effect that brightens while still being subtle, wear them alone or mix them for a customized luminosity.
                  • *Girlactik Luminous Face Veil in See Through and Goldie (reviewed HERE): I had the chance to preview the recent release of these power highlighters from one of my favorite indie-brands, Girlactik.  The soft gold Goldie looks gorgeous on warm skin tones and the nearly clear, See Through yields a liquid-like glow that is unique in my collection...on heavy rotation, indeed.
                  • *IT Cosmetics CC & Vitality Cream Blush in Je Ne Sais Quoi: A flattering cream blush in a perfect shade of pink, this formula self-adjusts to a spectrum of skin tones for a quintessential rosy flush that also boasts skincare benefits.

                  • *Girlactik Matte Lip Paint in Rustik: The latest shade from indie beauty brand Girlactik, this insanely pigmented rust red cloaks lips in significant coverage; it dries to a comfortable matte finish that wears beautifully for hours.
                  • *Lipstick Queen Saints and Sinners in Candy Sinner, Candy Saint, Mauve Sinner and Mauve Saint (reviewed HERE): Ever a fan of cool pink lip color, these newest shades from Lipstick queen do light lilac pink and luscious mauve so well.  The Saint versions are sheer and shiny and the Sinner formula packs an formidable amount of pigment with a cream finish.  I have been mixing Sinner Candy and Sinner Mauve constantly as of late.
                  • Givenchy Gloss Gelee d'Interdit in Frozen Rose: I picked this up last month when in San Francisco and am so glad I did; the exceptionally shiny jelly texture imparts just enough pink to brighten up the lips...try wearing it over nude lip liner for maximum impact.
                  • *By Terry Baume de Rose Set (reviewed HERE): This resplendent set has been selling out like crazy and one can easily ascertain why; it is a fantastic value, featuring five shades of By Terry Baume de Rose in mini tubes that lend to ease of application...so chic.

I hope your 2017 is off to a marvelous start! This week, I celebrate both a birthday and the fifth anniversary of Beauty Professor; I am grateful for another year of life and am over the moon that this blog has become such an integral part of my existence.  Thank you, truly, for your loyalty, support and encouragement all these years!

Today, I am excited to share a fresh Face of the Day, featuring discoveries from Burberry--namely, the gorgeous Liquid Lip Velvets and Eye Contours--as well as the Marc Jacob Omega Lash Mascara...this story has swatches galore as well as a culminating look featuring all four of the Lip Velvets I procured.

Kindly scroll on for more details, swatches and images of the products in action as well as the Bottom Line...

First, I've been using a lot of the *Chanel La Solution 10 de Chanel (reviewed HERE); it hydrates, balances and creates a velvety finish that makes skin smooth and healthy looking.  Before foundation, I love a pump of the *Burberry Festive Fresh Glow in Nude Radiance (reviewed HERE) to add a soft radiance that makes skin look lit from within. This limited edition formula is superb!

For base, I buffed on the *Hourglass Vanish Foundation in Beige (discussed HERE with swatches of every shade HERE) with a damp Beauty Blender.  Then, I swept the *Sisley-Paris Photo-Touche Sun Glow Bronzing Gel-Powder (reviewed HERE) in the hollows of my cheeks and along the perimeters of my face to gently contour and warm things up.  I recently rediscovered this remarkable bronzer and, consequently, have been reaching for it frequently.  The finely milled texture glides on, mimicking a cream, and becomes one with the skin for a sublimely natural finish. For blush, I dabbed a touch of the *La Prairie Cellular Radiance Cream Blush in Peach Glow (reviewed HERE) on the apples of my cheeks; with just the right balance between flush and luminosity to brighten the face, this blush is exceptional.  I used my *Surratt Beauty Artistique Highlight Brush (reviewed HERE) to apply the *Stila All Over Shimmer Duo in Kitten along the high points of my face (upper cheek bones, brow bones and down the bridge of the nose). This classic illuminating duo has pale pink and soft tan shades for a subtle finish that catches the light for an ethereal effect.

To set everything, I embraced the new Burberry Cashmere Foundation Compact in Ochre.  This freshly-released powder has a luxurious velvety texture and significant medium to full coverage.  I didn't use the enclosed sponge (hygienically located on the lower level of the compact) for this particular application and, instead, opted for a fluffy brush to create an even and diffused look.  The unscented powder is magnificent and Ochre is a befitting match for my NC 25 skin. Excellent for setting and touch ups alike, this powder creates a smooth and flawless canvas that looks balanced and fresh...it's simply divine.

                  Official details, courtesy of Burberry:

                  • Burberry Cashmere Compact delivers an instantly flawless complexion wrapped in cashmere-like comfort. The ultra-soft, full-coverage foundation conceals imperfections and unifies skin tone for a flawless complexion with a soft-matte finish.
                  • The weatherproof formula delivers all-day long-lasting wear without drying the skin. The new soft sponge enhances application and effortlessly builds and blends the formula.
                  • Available in six shades to match all skin tones. Contains Burberry's signature blend of rosehip, tea and lavender.
                  • – Instantly flawless, soft-matte complexion
                  • –Cashmere-like comfort
                  • – All-day long-lasting wear
                  • Made in the USA

To create a neutral smoky eye, I tried the Burberry Eye Color Contour Smoke & Sculpt Pen in Rosewood and Pale Copper as an overall wash of color.  After having read a myriad of very positive reviews for this fairly new formula, I was compelled to order for myself and my mom.  So far, I am very impressed with the color payoff, velvety texture and creaseless lasting power of the formula.  Rosewood is a neutral rosy medium taupe and Pale Copper is a luminous copper bronze.  Both have a  muted satin finish that is forgiving and easy to blend without being the slightest bit glittery in nature.

I also brightened up my under eye region with the *lilah b. Virtuous Veil Concealer & Eye Primer in B. Radiant(reviewed HERE) and recently discovered that this multitasking gem works well to neutralize pigmented lips while still keeping them hydrated...bonus!

For mascara, I applied two coats of the Marc Jacobs Omega Lash Mascara in Garnet (more on this formula below), followed by a single coat of the *Lancome Grandiose Extreme in Black (reviewed HERE) for extra intensity.

                  Swatches in direct sunlight.
                  The full eye look.

The *Marc Jacobs Omega Lash Mascara comes in some of the most vibrant colors I have ever encountered:
                  • Violet Incredible: A lush purple
                  • Think Ink: A deep indigo blue
                  • Peacock: A creamy teal green
                  • Garnet: A rich red wine
                  • All About Yves: A vivid periwinkle blue
Designed to add potent length and volume to lashes while also imparting magnificent color, these mascaras--which wear beautifully without smudging or flaking--are entirely unique in my collection. Due to their instant wearability, I am most partial to the wine Garnet shade and the stunning Violet Incredible but look forward to experimenting with the other shades in the coming days.

                  Official details, courtesy of Sephora:

                  What it is:
A lash-expanding, ultra volumizing mascara designed to deliver high-drama lashes.

                  What it does:
Get full lashes that make eyes pop with this water-based mascara formula from Marc Jacobs. It incorporates a special size-increasing blend of rice bran, bayberry, carob, and African acacia tree extracts for maximum lash-expanding impact. The essential oils deeply condition lashes, while vitamins B5 and C strengthen and hold them in place for even longer wear. The innovative double brush features an advanced design that's formed by stitching together two different brushes: one for enhanced lash separation, and another for mega-volume and curl. Together, the full-body mascara formula and dual brush design lengthen, curl, define, and volumize lashes so that they’re longer, louder, and blacquer than ever before.

                  What it is formulated WITHOUT:
                  - Parabens
                  - Sulfates
                  - Phthalates

Finally, the Burberry Liquid Lip Velvet completed the lip look.  This brand new formula has been on my radar for awhile and I was excited to order four shades in the peachy/pinky/nude family to which I gravitate:
                  • Light Nude: A pale beige...quite light...which would look lovely on fair skin tones.  I'll likely be using this particular shade to lighten up darker shades rather than wearing it on its own.
                  • Fawn Rose (also available on Burberry.com): A light mauve pink nude...probably my favorite from this particular quartet, due to its ease of wear and propensity to make lips look fuller.
                  • Peach: A bright--nearly 1960s--coral peachy pink with intense pigmentation.
                  • Fawn: A deep rose nude...sure to be a favorite with a spectrum of skin tones seeking a classic neutral option.
The Burberry Liquid Lip Velvet has a whipped liquid texture that feels exceptionally creamy on the lips.  Boasting terrific color payoff, a single swipe creates magnificent opacity and a creamy effect that lasts for hours.

I find that, despite the semi-matte finish, my lips stay comfortably hydrated over the duration of wear.  Along with its dreamy whipped composition, it is this reality that sets the Liquid Lip Velvet formula apart from traditional liquid matte lip colors. All in all, I am thrilled with my purchase and even have my eye on additional shades for the future!

The Burberry Liquid Lip Velvet is marked by its plush doe foot applicator and frosted lucite square tube.

                  Introducing Giorgio Armani Power Fabric.
This week brought two new beauty launches of epic proportions! First, I am beyond excited to share my initial impression of *Power Fabric, the latest base from Giorgio Armani.  Ever a foundationphile, I--of course--have swatches of all 20 shades so that you can easily find your perfect match.  Additionally, after a host of liquid matte lip color releases, 2017 is delivering a juicy metallic gloss formula, compliments of *Lancome Le Metallique Metallic Lip Lacquer.

Kindly scroll on for more details, swatches and images of the launches in action as well as the Bottom Line...
The Townhouse Suite at the Sunset Tower Hotel.
The West Coast launch of the *Giorgio Armani Power Fabric Longwear High Cover Foundation took place in a stunning suite at the iconic Sunset Tower Hotel. Ceiling high bookcases were lined with a wealth of Armani Beauty, enabling attendees to experience the formulas first hand.  During the event, I also got a chance to visit with the dashing and effervescent Tim Quinn (previously featured on BP HERE), whose beauty expertise is always mesmerizing.
With Armani Beauty Celebrity Makeup Artist Tim Quinn.

Power Fabric in shades #4.5 and #6.
As aforementioned, the *Giorgio Armani Power Fabric Longwear High Cover Foundation comes in an impressive expanse of 20 shades that effortlessly blend with a spectrum of skin tones, from the fairest alabaster to the richest ebony.  After trying it for three days in a row, my first impressions of the foundation are as follows:

                  •  Power Fabric offers medium to full coverage with a matte finish that looks entirely natural on the skin. In contrast to other Armani foundations, it offers more immediate coverage than Luminous Silk, Maestro and Maestro Glow and has a slightly more satin finish than Lasting Silk and better lasting power than Designer Lift. More comparisons later on in this post.
                  • The formula has a light fragrance, akin to the Luminous Silk (and for those who remember it, the Hydra-Glow foundation).  I find that it dissipates after a few minutes and isn't the slightest bit bothersome.
                  • The texture is weightless and the formula blends easily for a seamless finish.  I've used a dampened Beauty Blender for all three applications and love how it fuses the foundation with my skin.
                  • The foundation blurs fine lines and visible pores while still looking natural; in my experience, it doesn't highlight dry patches, heighten oiliness, crease or migrate over the course of wear.
                  • In terms of lasting power, Power Fabric is exceptional. Because of the way it sets so naturally, I haven't felt the need to use powder for setting or touch ups...I get 6-8 hours of flawless wear!
                  • All in all, the Power Fabric foundation is marvelous for those seeking medium to full coverage with a natural matte finish that lasts for hours without requiring a touch up.

Official details, courtesy of Giorgio Armani Beauty:

POWER FABRIC is a new liquid foundation that teams full coverage with a matte, lightweight second skin finish.

POWER FABRIC is a concentration of oils with no greasy effect, which delivers a velvet matte finish. To achieve perfect full coverage foundation, powerful pigments were selected and then shaped to obtain extremely fine pigment particles with a quality of color beyond reproach.

POWER FABRIC combines full coverage with an ultra-light formula. Upon application, the texture melts into the skin, effectively blurring imperfections with an incredibly lightweight matte veil that feels like you're not wearing make-up at all. With a SPF 25 filter, power fabric offers effective daily UVA and UVB protection up to the promise of broad-spectrum SPF protection.

Because every woman is unique, POWER FABRIC foundation comes in 20 shades to suit all skin tones. The formula is adapted for each shade to deliver optimal coverage without cracking or dulling.

For comparison, I focused on Shade #6 in three Giorgio Armani foundations: *Power Fabric, *Maestro Glow (reviewed HERE) and Luminous Silk. While all three are a good match for my NC 25-27 skin tone, Power Fabric #6--a perfect balance of olive, neutral and yellow tones--most seamlessly blends into my skin...it's a nearly perfect match!

The *Lancome Le Metallique Metallic Lip Lacquer has launched exclusively at Sephora!
Next, the *Lancome Le Metallique Metallic Lip Lacquer features 13 shades of insanely shiny and pigmented lip color in, as its moniker implies, a creamy metallic finish that is modern and unique.  The ultra reflective lacquer feels cushiony and moisturizing on the lips and has a gentle tack that enhances its long wearing properties.

From an aesthetic perspective, the sleek tubes are streamlined and chic and the formula itself is eye-catchingly bewitching.  From the most muted nudes (e.g., Mirrored Nude and Lavender Patina) to bold jewel tones (including Orange Ore and Meteoric Violet), the range of shade offerings is satisfyingly substantial.

What I love most about Le Metallique is how wearable this metallic formula is; the incandescent shimmer is finely milled, creating a molten look that is flattering rather than garish and the rich color payoff makes for a delightful "one coat" experience.  I am earnestly impressed with this lip color release!

                  13 bold and radiant shades.

                  Official details, courtesy of Sephora:

                  What it is:

                  What it does:
Get unbelievable metallic lip color in just one swipe with these intensely pigmented, long-wearing lip lacquers. They’re infused with exclusive plexi-gloss polymers and metallic pearls that give each lip color high-impact and multi-dimensional, 3-D shine. The formula is infused with the perfect blend of vitamin E and grapeseed oil so that lips feel hydrated. They’re available in bold, trendy shades to more wearable neutrals.

                  What it is formulated WITHOUT:

Introducing the Hourglass GIRL Lip Stylo.
The *Hourglass GIRL Lip Stylo (also available at Hourglass) has launched, delivering 20 gloriously creamy, moisturizing and pigmented shades that possess monikers intended to inspire by reflecting unique characteristics that encourage us to be catalysts for good. I am over the moon to share swatches of all 20 shades as well as a full beauty look with five of my favorites.

Kindly scroll on for more details, swatches and images of the Hourglass GIRL Lip Stylo in action as well as the Bottom Line...

From tender nude to bold and vibrant plum, there is a *GIRL Lip Stylo for every lip color lover...

Featuring sleek and modern brown and gold packaging, the luxurious cylinders hold brilliant, retractable bullets of rich and moisturizing lip color that offers build able coverage and extremely comfortable wear.

                  Here are my initial impressions:
                  • The formula is smooth and silky with marvelous color payoff.
                  • The color can be applied sheerly or built to nearly full opacity with a few passes; the formula is light enough to feel weightless, even when intense coverage has been achieved.
                  • The scent is very light--slightly vanilla in nature--and there is no discernible taste.
                  • My perennially dry lips felt extremely hydrated and comfortable over the course of wear. Additionally, I get 3-4 hours of lasting power before feeling the need to touch up.
                  • All shades have a creamy, subtly shiny finish; none of the shades appear to have any shimmer or pearl, yet the overall effect has beautiful dimension.
                  • All in all, I am extremely pleased with the *Hourglass GIRL Lip Stylos and can't wait to incorporate them into my beauty routine.

                  All 20 shades.

The beauty world is rife with constant releases; that being said sometimes, you come across a gem or two that feel wildly fresh and exquisitely unique.  Such is the case for the 16 discoveries--in the hair, skin, face, eye and lip categories--that follow!

Kindly scroll on for more details, swatches and images of the products in action as well as the Bottom Line...

                  16 exquisite beauty discoveries
                  // HAIR + SKIN //

                  (1) *Silke London Hair Wrap: This clever creation is designed to keep hair smooth and healthy while sleeping; the luxurious silk is known to reduce split ends, naturally condition hair, promote growth and volume and even allow you to wash your hair less (count me in, please!).  I am so impressed with the quality of this silken wonder that I am excited to try the hair ties next.

                  (2) *Krigler London Lovely Patchouli 55: First released in 1955 and distinguished by notes of amber, musk, red fruits, vanilla and patchouli this opulent fragrance was known to be the amongst the favorites of Jackie Kennedy.  The warm and classic energy that this juice emanates is unmistakably beautiful...timeless sophistication in a bottle.
                  (3) *Eve Lom Kiss Mix (reviewed HERE): This diminutive pot of balm has been saving my lips this winter; the rich and plush formula has a cooling effect that delivers new life to my oft-parched pout and the glossy hydration brings out the natural luster of one's lips, for a beauteous effect both inside and out.
                  (4) Vince Camuto Silk Scarf: I love the refined appeal of a silk scarf; I always keep one in my handbag and regularly find myself converting it to an impromptu belt, headband or neck accessory.  The 100% silk versions always fall better and their inherent quality guarantees that, with proper care, they will last for years on end.  This breathtaking style (worn at the end of this post) by Vince Camuto is both affordable and fetching...I am completely taken by the warm neutral color palette.

A swatch of the Eve Lom Kiss Mix.
The Silk London Hair Wrap in action...it is roomy enough to fit over my massive bun while still feeling entirely comfortable.

                   // FACE //

                  (5) *Suqqu Extra Rich Cream Foundation #203(reviewed HERE): This exceptional foundation offers marvelous coverage and a skin soothing finish that looks incredibly natural; boasting intense hydration and strong lasting power, I am particularly loving this formula for the cold winter months. #203 is a perfect match for my NC 25 skin.

                  (6) *Surratt Beauty Artistique Blush in Grisaille + Aureole (reviewed HERE): A modern and dynamic contouring duo, there is a reason why the true neutral brown Grisaille is often sold out; combined with the radiant soft golden highlight of Aureole, this is a full face of dimension and incandescence in two shades.

                  (7) *Surratt Beauty Artistique Highlight Brush(reviewed HERE): I consistently reach for this brush to add highlight and flush to my face...ultra soft and stunningly high performance, it's a daily beauty treasure.

                  (8) Laura Mercier Windflush Cheek Color: I ordered this new release on a whim and am truly glad I did.  The peachy nude matte peach blush provides an authentic flush that looks like skin has been touched (gently) by the elements of nature.  Brighter and more apricot in nature than a bronzer and more natural than a traditional blush, the finely milled formula has absolutely no shimmer while avoiding a powdery finish on the skin.  It can also be worn on the eyes for a understated and monochromatic effect.

A swatch of Laura Mercier Windflush.
                  Swatches in direct sunlight.

                  Eyes.
                  // EYES //

                  (9) *Touch in Sol Metallist Shadow in Eldora(reviewed HERE): This radiant duo is comprised of a gilded foil cream on one side and a glitter flake formula on the other; I am consistently impressed with how smooth and luminous this formula is and highly recommend Eldora for the quintessential  golden eye.

                  (10) *Natasha Denona Star Liner in Dark Violet(reviewed HERE): The deep purple liner applies smoothly and, once dried, does not budge; paired with its glittering violet sister, this eyeliner team brings new meaning to a "twinkle" in one's eye.

                  (11) *Gucci Impact Long Wearing Eyeliner in Sunstone(reviewed HERE): I am loving how a sweep of the this soft cream eyeliner along the lower waterline brightens up and widens the eye in an instant.  Well worth the pursuit!

                  (12) *Tom Ford Fiber Brow Gel in Chestnut(reviewed HERE): I simply cannot get enough of the masterful Fiber Brow Gel; just a few sweeps of the brush through my low-maintenance brows and they look fuller, darker, more defined and clearly more polished with marvelous hold and shape that lasts the day.  I don't want to be without it.

                  (13) *By Terry Terrybly Mascara in Black Parti-Pris(reviewed HERE): This rich jet black formula has lash nourishing ingredients that create full and fluttery fringe in two coats.

                  Swatches in direct sunlight.
                  The full eye look.

                  Lips.
                  // LIPS //

                  (14) *Le Metier de Beaute Lip Creme in Riche(reviewed HERE): This luscious beige cream gloss looks lovely alone or over lip color, creating a delicate, non-sticky shine that enhances every lip look.

                  (15) *Giorgio Armani Maestro Lip Stain in #202 Dolci(also available at Armani Beauty): Not new, but new to me, this classic nude has immense color payoff and a neutral lip effect that flatters a spectrum of skin tones.  As far as I am concerned, this is a modern classic.

                  (16) Sensai Silky Design Rouge in Koubainioli: This new lip crayon features a retractable bullet with a color-drenched, silky formula that bathes lips in moisture and shine.  I love the "my lips but better" appeal of the rose nude Koubainioli; it's easy to swipe on (even without a mirror) and imparts a fresh faced look that works with a myriad of color schemes.

FOTD: Fresh Pinks from MAC, Vintage Cosmetics + Clarins and the New YSL The Shock Mascara

                  $
                  0
                  0

Replete with tender pinks and timeless choices that transcend a season, today's post is all about classic, non-limited edition products that create a fresh face as well as a brand new mascara that creates some of the most effortless, full black lashes I've encountered to date!

Kindly scroll on for more details, swatches and images of the products in action as well as the Bottom Line...

To start, I have rounded up a few MAC products--all a part of the permanent line--that deliver a perfect infusion of pink.  They include:
                  • MAC Powder Blush in Peony Petal: This blush is a quintessential cool toned baby pink that is richly pigmented without oxidizing dark, even over the course of a long day. I like to stipple this into the apples of the cheeks for a natural flush.
                  • MAC Cranberry Frost Eyeshadow: Lushly appointed with fantastic color payoff and virtuously no fallout, this warm burgundy shadow has a silky satin finish and subtle luminosity.  I can apply it as a single wash of color for a complete eye in seconds.
                  • MAC Patentpolish Lip Pencil in Patent Pink: I have loved this lip color for well over 3 years  and am glad that MAC made it a part of the permanent collection.  Glossy and nourishing, this jumbo lip pencil has great coverage and a creamy lilac pink hue that will flatter a spectrum of skin tones.
                  Swatches in direct sunlight.

// FACE // For face, I've been loving the smooth and even canvas of a medium coverage foundation with a dash of glow and a pop of pink.
                  • *Lancer Dani Glowing Skin Perfector(reviewed HERE): One pump of this illuminating skincare formula and my face is hydrated and brightened; I love that Dani offers glow without imparting any pigment as this characteristic works especially well with high-coverage foundations.
                  • *Giorgio Armani Power Fabric Foundation #6 (ALL shades swatched + reviewed HERE): Speaking of high-coverage foundations, the new Power Fabric is simply brilliant.  Lightweight yet potent, this base instantly evens the skin and dries down to a natural matte finish that looks entirely natural and performs well for hours.
                  • *Sisley-Paris L'Orchidee Highlighting Blush (reviewed HERE): Don't let this veritable work of art in a compact belie its ability to create a sophisticated warmth on the cheeks that gently contours and bronzes in a single pass.
                  • MAC Powder Blush in Peony Petal: As aforementioned, this cheery cool pink works well on the apples of the cheeks for a doll-like effect.
                  • *Vintage by Jessica Liebskind Illuminating Face Set: Featuring two gloriously radiant shades, this stunning palette provides illumination on the high points of the face with soft rose gold and cool pale brown options for a customized glow. I even used a touch at my brow bones for an upper transition shade.
                  Swatches in direct sunlight.

//EYES // A drastically pared-down two products complete the eye look in the images at the end of this post.

                • MAC Cranberry Frost Eyeshadow: This powder shadow has an almost creamy texture that blends like a dream for a singularly effective wash of color.  It's pigmented without being overpowering and looks lovely with a strong black lash.
                • YSL The Shock Volumizing Mascara: Brand new and wildly intriguing, this ultra-black mascara has an asymmetrical brush that deposits color (and volume) into the depths of the lash bed. Two coats and my lashes were noticeably longer, fuller and more fluttery.  It performed well on my sensitive, contact-lens ridden eyes and lasted the day without smudging or flaking.

                • // HAIR, LIPS ETC. // A unifying signature scent and full pink lips for the win.
                  • Byredo Mojave Ghost (reviewed HERE): This, hands down, is my signature scent...the combination of ethereal warm, sweet, fresh and musky notes allows me to wear it year round and it works incredibly well with my chemistry.  When you know, you know.
                  • Byredo Mojave Ghost Hair Perfume (reviewed HERE): To further enhance the above, I love this clever hair perfume, which infuses my tresses with a softer version of the Mojave Ghost EDP.
                  • *Juvalips: In a world rife with injectables, I am all for natural ways of enhancing one's features.  Enter: Juvalips. This clever and portable device uses a light suction method to gently stimulate blood flow to the lips, creating visible plumping and fullness with ever one-minute treatment.  I noted results after the first treatment and am continuing to use it, both day and night, to maintain my more pillowy pout.  Is it commensurate with injectables?  Likely not.  But it definitely creates a lasting (5-7 hours per treatment), fuller lip at an affordable price point with no long-term commitment.  I, for one, am impressed!
                  • Clarins Lip Pencil in Nude Fair: My mom and I both picked up this gorgeous nude lip liner after randomly swatching it at the counter.  It is pale enough to subtly expand the boundaries of the lip line while being dark enough to serve as a stunning base for nude and pink lipstick.  One of my favorite discoveries as of late!
                  • MAC Patentpolish Lip Pencil in Patentpink (reviewed HERE): Two sweeps of this jumbo pencil across the lips and your finished...it's an effortless cool toned pink that lasts for hours with a soft and moisturizing shine.

The following images reflect all products in action in afternoon light...

// STYLE NOTES // If I had to wear a silk shirt and jeans forever, I'd probably be OK.
                  • Equipment France Black Slim Signature Shirt: Should I be embarrassed that I have three of these in my closet?  Perhaps.  That being said, they get A LOT of wear.
                  • FRAME Denim Vintage Fit High Rise Cropped Jeans: I wasn't sure how I felt about these jeans when I first bought them; they have a higher rise and an asymmetrical cropping that looks positively rudimentary.  That being said, I have worn them a ton in my month of owning them; they are pieced together from two separate pairs of jeans (fascinating) and have a feel on the body that once was only reserved for the most vintage and worn in pairs in my collection. I know these will continue to get a lot of use, especially through the spring and summer. I generally wear a 24 or 25 in FRAME and sized up to a 25 for this high waisted pair...that was a good choice.
                  • Nike AirMax Sneaker: My tennis shoe love affair continues and these slightly platform-soled gems have classic appeal while being extremely comfortable.
