Above: The contents of my Neiman Marcus Project Beauty haul.
Last Saturday, I attended Neiman Marcus Project Beauty at the Fashion Island, Newport Beach location.  Coinciding with the Beauty Event (previewed HERE...this runs now through 9/21), this was a time of brand spotlights, new product discussions, beauty expert interviews and a spectrum of incredible gifts with purchases!

Kindly scroll on for a peek into the NM Beauty Event bag, details from the day and an overview of what I personally procured...

Above: The chic, neutral hues and roomy interior make this tote one I'll use all year.
Above: Samples galore, courtesy of the Neiman Marcus Beauty Event (free with the tote when you spend $125 on beauty or fragrance).

Directly following the brand presentations, attendees flooded the beauty floor for demonstrations, makeup application and to take advantage of the host of gifts with purchases available at their favorite beauty and skincare lines. The energy in the air was palpable!

Onto my purchases...

Above: A little bit of this, a little bit of that...
I excercised significant restraint and focused on skincare and a few select beauty items in categories that are always beseeching me to buy (lipstick and foundation, of course!).

Products include:
  • SK-II Facial Treatment Repair C: It was explained to me that this is a concentrated version of the Facial Treatment Essence (reviewed HERE) and is excellent for use in the daytime hours.
  • SK-II Facial Treatment Clear Lotion: I ran through my trial bottle and needed a larger quantity. The smoothing and refining properties of this wonder liquid truly are unprecedented.
  • SK-II Skin Refining Treatment: I use this by itself at night and in the morning, my skin is quite literally glowing!
  • Kevyn Aucoin The Expert Lip Color in Sireeden: A stunningly flattering pinky nude with marvelous pigmentation and a creamy finish.
  • Kevyn Aucoin The Sensual Skin Fluid Foundation in #07: This formula arrived in store the day before and I was thrilled to be able to take it home for trial...I also will be sharing swatches of all the shades in the formula (in various lighting situations) in the very near future.  Quick first impressions...feels like nothing (similar to Armani Fusion Maestro) but can be easily built to medium-full coverage.  Marvelous lasting power and a demi-matte finish.  Simply stunning.
  • Chanel Nail Colour in Atmosphere: Iridescent pink with gold undertones, this jelly-finish pale shade gains full opacity with two coats and is perfect for a low-maintenance gleam.

Dior Star Foundation Review...Swatches of All Shades, Including the New Dior Star Concealer

diorskin star foundation swatches
Above: Good lighting in a bottle?  Diorskin Star Foundation in #031 Sand.
Summer and fall have been incredible seasons for the release of a wealth of brilliant foundations...from Clè de Peau Beautè to Tom Ford, medium coverage formulas with lovely, skin-like finishes are having their place in the sun.  The latest foundation from Dior, the Dior Star Studio Makeup (currently available at NordstromNeiman MarcusSephora) recently joined the ranks of its luxury counterparts.

Here are the official details, courtesy of Nordstrom:

Inspired by the professional illuminating techniques and expertise of its makeup artists, Dior invented Diorskin Star, its first brightening foundation. The weightless, fluid formula is capable of recreating the spectacular and perfecting light of Dior’s studios. It uses a new generation of hollow silica beads to capture and diffuse light in a correcting halo with no shine. At the same time, color-filter pigments neutralize color imbalances to recreate the perfect light. Anti light-trapping skincare ingredients help reduce the appearance of dark areas, pigment spots and redness. Your complexion instantly becomes more luminous and even.
My Experience:
This review has taken me awhile to prepare because my experiences with this foundation have not been entirely consistent. Granted, I have been testing this formula in extreme early fall heat and humidity (giving it an undeniable trial by fire) but all in all, I am still somewhat ambivalent about Dior Star.  The coverage is medium to full in a single application and, once it sets into the skin, leaves one's canvas with a flawless, even tone.  My current shade is #031 Sand, which is a good match for my NC 25-27 skintone; I haven't experienced any irritation with my sensitive skin over the course of a few weeks of testing.  It is a thicker in texture and consistency than the CdP Radiant Fluid and the YSL Fusion Ink and needs to be buffed into the skin quickly for the most natural finish.

Although I love how it looks upon initial application, I am slightly vexed by the unpredictability of wear.  For example, the first time I wore it, it looked great, but looked extremely glowy within 3-4 hours.  On other days, I got 6-8 hours of wear without feeling the need to touch up.  In every case, I have used the same skincare and primer so this performance diffference cannot be attributed to changes in my routine.  Due to this inconsistency, I may not choose to wear it for a long day of work, but I could envision myself embracing it for shorter spans of time (e.g., running errands, heading to an event or perhaps a night on the town).

It also looks less natural (at least on me) and more "foundation-like" on my skin than other foundations in my rotation.  Even though it contains sunscreen, I haven't experienced any flashback in photographs (see images below).  Sometimes, that more polished and "done up" look is preferred (and that is when I love it) but I foresee its usage occuring on a more intermittant basis rather than being a daily ritual.

All in all, it is a beautiful formula and I much prefer it to other Dior foundations I've tried (Diorskin Airflash being the exception) and I will continue to experiment with it as the weather changes!

I also had the chance to swatch the new Diorskin Star Sculpting and Brightening Concealer (currently available at NordstromNeiman Marcus and Sephora).  I haven't personally tried it, but have read many glowing reviews of the Dior concealer formulas in the past; hopefully the details, shade descriptions and swatches below will be of great use! If you have tried it or are using it, please make sure to share your experience in the comments section ; )

Here are the official details, courtesy of Nordstrom:

Diorskin Star Sculpting and Brightening Concealer by Dior is an illuminating stretch-effect concealer for eyes that instantly neutralizes dark circles while unifying and illuminating the eye contours. You’ll notice that signs of fatigue fade away for more dazzling eyes.

How to use: Use the built-in applicator to deposit a few touches in the crease of the circles and at the outer corner of the eye. Then gently tap with the fingertips and draw the texture out to the exterior of the eye.

Bottom Line: There are moments when I think the Dior Star Foundation (available at NordstromNeiman MarcusSephora) is utterly beautiful, leaving me with a balanced, perfected, semi-luminous canvas.  Other times (perhaps due to the weather or mood of my skin), it feels like it breaks down, becomes somewhat obvious on the skin and gets too glowy over the course of wear.  As aforementioned, I will continue to work with this formula  to see how it performs in various contexts and weigh back in once I've come to a decisive conclusion.

Have YOU tried the Dior Star Foundation?  Thoughts?

Good things ahead including spotlights on new skincare, fragrance, lip color, blush and mascara...so much to share!

Shiseido Ultimune Power Infusing Concentrate...Working from the Inside Out!

    $

Above: Shiseido Ultimune Power Infusing Concentrate...harnessing the power of one's own immune system.
I have made no secret of the fact that I take vitamin supplements...as an educator, I am surrounded by germs at every turn and my daily vitamin (as well as extra Vitamin B and C) help to bolster my immunity to fight off potential illness.  It makes perfect sense, then, that skincare should also work to harness the power of one's own immune system combat damage including lines, wrinkles, fatigue and discoloration.  I recently had the chance to try Shiseido's revolutionary solution to this notion...with consistent use, the Ultimune Power Infusing Concentrate enhances the skin's defense system, yielding a stronger, healthier, more resiliant countenance.  Brilliant, no?

Kindly scroll on for more details, images, an ingredients list and the Bottom Line...

Above: My skin after two weeks of daily usage of the Shiseido Ultimune Power Infusing Concentrate.
Above: It felt smoother, brighter and healthier!

This first-of-its-kind product is the culmination of over 20 years of research in its creation and development; designed to act as a stand alone skincare option or in tandem with other products, the Shiseido Ultimune Power Infusing Concentrate targets specific areas of skincare needs including:
    • Skin Texture...it works to smooth and refine the surface of the skin
    • Skin Tone...it works to brighten discoloration to restore a more even canvas
    • Skin Contour...it works to lift and firm, creating a more defined facial contour; following this concentrate with a serum furthers this effect
The concentrate--which is appropriate for all ages and skin types (even sensitive skin like mine!)--is emollient and silky and I find that one pump is enough to cover my entire face.  Although it adds a bit of hydration, it is absorbed instantly and I can follow with serum, moisturizer and sunscreen for added defense.  I love the fact that it bolsters the power of my subsequent skincare choices, thereby making my lotions and serums more potent than if they were applied without the concentrate.  It has been a non-negotiable step in my routine as of late and I cannot wait to experience increased results as I continue to include it in my skincare process.

    Above: The full ingredients list.
Above: A single drop of the concentrate...the texture feels like liquid silk and is absorbed immediately.
Above: My skin is ready to combat whatever comes my way.
Bottom Line: I am really enjoying my experience with the Shiseido Ultimune Power Infusing Concentrate.  With results that are visible on the outside, regular usage has increased the strength and resilience of my skin, much like vitamins fortify me from the inside #beautyinyou.  The fact that it can be used in tandem with one's existing skincare regimen to heighten its power makes its wonder and utility all the more impressive.  My regular teaching schedule has commenced this month and my skin needs all the immunity it can get!  Highly recommended.  Check out Shiseido's Ultimune Power Infusing Concentrate HERE.

    xx,

Urban Decay Is Now at Nordstrom...My Curated List!

The Nordstrom beauty floor is wonderland of sorts...brimming with a cornucopia of options for beauty purveyors, the latest line to join this venerable collection is Urban Decay.  Renown for its eclectic and edgy vibe, Urban Decay features beautiful vegan and cruelty-free formulas with stalwart lasting power.  In light of its debut at Nordstrom, I've taken the liberty of compiling a list of some of my favorite Urban Decay products as well as those I currently have my eye on...

    My Curated List:
    • NAKED Skin Body Beauty Balm: As the remnants of my summer tan continue to diminish, I am in need of a bit of luminescence on my limbs...this glowing cream could be just the answer.
    • NAKED Skin Weightless Ultra Definition Liquid Makeup: I am intrigued by the light texture and medium coverage of this formula and suspect that I am Shade #3.0 (.0 shades have yellow undertones while .5 shades possess a rosier leaning).  Off to procure a sample so I can weigh in on my experience in the very near future!
    • Revolution Lipstick in Native (reviewed HERE): A quintessential nude pink with lovely opacity and wondrous hydration.
    • Grindhouse Double Barrel Sharpener: This dual sided sharpener gives the sharpest point (without waste) to traditional pencils and chubbier versions as well; I use mine weekly!
    • 24/7 Velvet Glide-On Eye Pencil: The rich formula traverses the skin with ease, leaving an indelible line that can be smudged for a smoky effect; once set, however, the liner does not budge.
    • Naked Flushed Bronzer, Highlighter and Blush Palette in Native: The promise of glowing cheeks is enticing and I am always drawn in by the allure of a multi-tasking palette; I can't wait to give this gem a try.

    --Shop the Post--

Bottom Line:  I have loved the Urban Decay line for years and am so glad that it is finally available at Nordstrom; 'tis a perfect marriage of two long-standing and well respected brands!  The eyeliner, lip color and pencil sharpener are tried, tested and true items for me and I am eager to get my mitts on the Body Beauty Balm and NAKED Skin Makeup (once a foundation addict, always a foundation addict).  Please share your experience with the products discussed and the line in general...can't wait to hear your thoughts!

Good news!  The Jouer Long-Wear Creme Mousse Eyeshadows have arrived and they are utterly incredible.  Super smooth, gorgeously pigmented and completely crease-free, once applied, these shadows do. not. budge. Dusk, a creamy satin taupe, has been on my eyelids nonstop!  Full review with swatches of every shade in the very imminent future.
Above: Black glasses with thick lenses for this girl who cannot see the "big E" at the Optometrist.   Wearing Rozge Healing Lip Gloss in Prague and Oslo on the lips (review soon!).
Speaking of topics concerning the eyes, due to immense amount of pollen in the air and my seasonal allergies, this past week has been one marked by excessive glasses wearing (my eyes are extremely itchy when my allergies act up).  One thing is for certain, eye makeup (one shadow shade + two coats of mascara) takes all of 30 seconds on "glasses" days...every cloud has a silver lining ;  )

    byredo
    Above: Staples for rushed days.
This week has been one of minimal sleep and quick exits in the morning...four invaluable staples in my routine have been:
    • Byredo Gypsy Water:  I am severly deficient at adequately describing fragrance (consequently, the base notes are listed below) but to me this smells soft, fresh and very clean...an unconventional skin scent that lifts my mood in a single spritz.

Top: Bergamot, lemon, pepper, juniper berries
    Heart: Incense, pine needles, orris
    Base: Amber, vanilla, sandalwood

finally placed my online order (through Neiman Marcus) for the Gucci Beauty products on my wish list (initially discussed HERE).  I was shocked by how many shades were already sold out but was glad that most of what I had my eye on was still available.  One quick check on the Gucci website confirmed that their stock must be more substantial as every shade of each product appeared available.  I suggest ordering sooner, rather than later, if you have your heart set on anything in particular...the buzz on the quality of the products has been very favorable and I suspect that availability is going to get even more limited over the next few weeks.

Here is a rundown of my preliminary order...

    (1) Gucci Face Lustrous Glow Foundation in shade #50 and #60: Color matching foundation sight-unseen is a beastly task (hence, why Beauty Professor is so swatch-intensive) but I have deduced that I must be somewhere in between these two shades.  Will share images as soon as humanly possible!

    (2) Audacious Lipstick in Whisper: This pigment-rich formula appears to be a lovely mauve-tinged nude and I also ordered the Luxurious Lipstick in Cipria (in stock at Gucci only as of publish date) is a peachy pink nude...what else?

    (3) Magnetic Color Shadow Mono in Oxydus and Iconic Gold: I ordered both shades from Gucci (linked above) because this rich coppery brown and khaki gold (seemingly two of the most effortlessly wearable tones) were back ordered at Neiman Marcus.  I am excited that they should arrive next week and will update with my Gucci ordering experience then.  Currently (through 11/16), shipping and returns are free!

    (4) Vibrant Demi-Glaze Lip Lacquer in Breathless: Available at Gucci and backordered at Neiman Marcus (until 10/22), this pinky nude must be mine.

Bottom Line: And so concludes this Bits + Bobs post...I would love to hear what is new with you!

Good things ahead including my review of the new Kevyn Aucoin foundation, Jouer Creme Mousse Eyeshadows and a host of new beauty discoveries.

Kevyn Aucoin Sensual Skin Fluid Foundation: My Thoughts + Swatches of Every Shade

Above: The Kevyn Aucoin Sensual Skin Fluid Foundation has arrived.
A couple of weeks ago, I attended the Neiman Marcus Project Beauty event (discussed HERE).  Although I exercised significant restraint in my purchases, I couldn't resist procuring yet another new foundation debut, this time, from the iconic Kevyn Aucoin line.  The Sensual Skin Fluid Foundation (available at Neiman Marcus, Space NK,  Barney's NY and Cult Beauty) is the first fresh KA base product since the Sensual Skin Balm (reviewed HERE) was released nearly two years ago.  With a liquid texture and medium coverage and natural finish, this foundation is fantastic for daily use.  Special thanks to Kevyn Aucoin makeup artist Patricia Le for helping me to make the subsequent swatches possible!

Kindly scroll on for additional details, swatches of every shade, images of the foundation in action as well as the Bottom Line...

kevyn aucoin sensual skin fluid foundation swatches
Above: The Sensual Skin Enhancer Fluid Foundation comes in a frosted glass bottle.
Official details, courtesy of Neiman Marcus:

Luxurious, ultra-lightweight fluid foundation that provides luminous coverage, "no makeup" feel, glides on to provide smooth, luminous looking skin with buildable coverage.

Serum formula features potent anti-aging ingredients including Pigmento Perfetto, a powerful marine-based algae extract known to fight the production of Progerin, a protein that accelerates aging by encouraging loss of firmness and elasticity.
    • Buildable coverage, from light to medium/full.
    • Long wear coverage wears for 6-8 hours.
    • Oil free, water free, powder free paraben free and nano ingredient free.
    • Dermatologist tested.

    How to Use:

Always start with a freshly moisturized and primed skin. We suggest using Kevyn Aucoin The Primed Skin Developer for a flawless canvas.

Start by dropping a small amount of product onto your fingertips or the Kevyn Aucoin The Foundation Brush and apply starting at your nose blending outwards to your hairline.

    My Thoughts:

I have tried so many foundations this fall that it is almost overwhelming, even for one who endlessly adores the chance to experience.  Consequently, I will do my best to describe the major tenets of this formula as well as what distinguishes it from other foundations I've recently reviewed.

This formula is very fluid in texture and one might be tempted to compare it to the Giorgio Armani Maestro foundation (reviewed HERE), however, the packaging (with a decanting wand) and watery texture are where the similarities stop.  The Sensual Skin Fluid provides much more coverage than the extremely sheer Maestro and has a more matte finish initially.   I find that 5-6 drops are all that is necessary to create a medium coverage effect; after priming, I buff said drops into the skin with a Beauty Blender.  The result is wonderful...an even, matte canvas with a natural matte finish that looks better (taking on the slightest glow) over the course of wear.

The Kevyn Aucoin Sensual Skin Fluid:
The formula, which is essentially unscented, doesn't irritate my very sensitive skin and I get 6-7 hours of wear before feeling the need to touch up with powder.  I haven't used it long enough to be able to speak to any cumulative skincare benefits but am please with how my skin looks and feels over the duration of wear.  By and large, this is a grand option for one seeking natural-looking medium coverage with decent lasting power!

kevyn aucoin sensual skin fluid foundation swatches
Above: The glass decanting wand decants the foundation easily and precisly...only a 5-6 drops are necessary for medium coverage.
Above: The full ingredients list...relatively short but decidedly 'cone  heavy.
kevyn aucoin sensual skin fluid foundation swatches
Above: All eight shades, prior to swatching.
With regards to the eight shades, there are two great options for very fair skin (SF 02 and SF 03), three practically identical options for light-medium skin (SF 05, SF 06 and SF 07), two options for medium-dark skin (SF 08 and SF 09) and one choice for deep skin (SF 13).  In light of how inclusive Kevyn Aucoin has been with his original Sensual Skin Enhancer range, I was a touch surprised by the limited nature of both cool and rosy undertones and deep shade options.

    Shade Descriptions (in my experience):
    • SF 02: Alabaster beige for very fair skin with neutral undertones (@N/NC/NW 10-15); potential shade matches in the original Sensual Skin Enhancer include SX 1 and SX 2
    • SF 03: Very light beige for fair skin with yellow undertones (@N/NC 15); potential shade matches in the original Sensual Skin Enhancer include SX 2 and SX 3
    • SF 05: Light beige for light skin with yellow undertones (@N/NC 20-23); potential shade matches in the original Sensual Skin Enhancer include SX 5 and SX 6
    • SF 06: Light beige for light-medium skin with yellow undertones (@NC 25-27); potential shade matches in the original Sensual Skin Enhancer include SX 6 and SX 7
    • SF 07: Light beige for light-medium skin with neutral to yellow undertones (@N/NC 25-27); potential shade matches in the original Sensual Skin Enhancer include SX 7 and SX 8
    • SF 08: Medium-dark beige for medium-dark skin with warm golden undertones (@N/NC 30-35); potential shade matches in the original Sensual Skin Enhancer include SX 8, SX 10 and SX 11
    • SF 09: Medium-dark beige for medium-dark skin with neutral to rosy undertones (@N/NW 30-35); potential shade matches in the original Sensual Skin Enhancer include SX 9
    • SF13: Dark beige for rich, dark skin with neutral to warm undertones (@N/NC 40-45+); potential shade matches in the original Sensual Skin Enhancer include SX 12 and SX 13
**There are no direct equivalents in this formula for SX 14, SX 15 and SX 16

Bottom Line: The Sensual Skin Fluid Foundation (available at Neiman MarcusSpace NK,  Barney's NY and Cult Beauty) is a marvelous addition to the Kevyn Aucoin Beauty line.  It fills a void between the ultra-pigmented Sensual Skin Enhancer and the Sensual Skin Balm and is the most reasonable option for those seeking a one-step, medium-coverage foundation with a natural finish from Kevyn Aucoin's current product offerings.

I would love to hear your questions, thoughts and experience on this formula...please share in the comments box below!

Marvelous news, dear readers...my first Gucci order arrived today and I rushed out into the setting sun to take a copious amount of pictures, thereby enabling me to share them here at Beauty Professor ASAP!  After whittling my desires from this decadent new line down (currently available at Neiman Marcus and Gucci.com) to a manageable list (discussed HERE and HERE), I counted down the days until said items were delivered. Despite the fact that the sun was on the cusp of retiring for the evening, I managed to capture the essence of these incredible products and also included comparison swatches since the foundation has, up to this point, been an enigma of sorts on the Internet.  I will continue test these products and offer a more comprehensive review in the coming days.  In the meanwhile, I hope the following images will be of great use to those of you ordering online!

The Gucci Face Lustrous Glow Foundation in shade #50 and #60: This formula comes in a gorgeous frosted glass bottle with a pump dispenser.  It appears to offer medium coverage and has a satin-matte finish that makes the skin look naturally perfected.  The wear time appears substantial (though I only have had the chance to wear it for the past 6 hours and now I will be headed to bed) without any obvious oil breakthrough or migrating.  Shade 050 is a NC 25 shade for light skin with a yellow undertone and Shade 060 is a touch warmer (leaning golden) and deeper...more like an NC 27.  I have applied the 060 alone to my in the images below (a currently perfect match) and made sure not to set it with powder for the most accurate representation! So far, I think this is a very lovely medium coverage option and I will weigh on this formula again after additional trial.

Jouer Long-Wear Creme Mousse Eyeshadows...a Review with Swatches of Every Shade!

    $

    0
Above: With names reminiscent of an evening sky, the Jouer Long-Wear Creme Mousse Eyeshadows are superb.
I have had the distinct pleasure of experimenting with the glorious Jouer Long-Wear Creme Mousse Eyeshadows, new for Fall 2014, for nearly a month.  Pigmented and luminescent, with an extremely stalwart and creaseless wear time, these silky wonders are simply stellar!

Kindly scroll on for more details, swatches of each shade, images of the eye shadow in action (in two separate looks!) as well as the Bottom Line...

Above: Six ultra-wearable shades with a luminous satin finish and absolutely no fallout!
Here are the official details, courtesy of Nordstrom:

Jouer Long Wear Creme Mousse Eyeshadow offers long-wear, high-impact shimmer with a formula rich in marine botanicals. It blends effortlessly while firming the eyelids and reducing the appearance of wrinkles. The crease-resistant shadow provides ease in application with a smooth, velvety finish.
How to use: Apply with fingertips across eyelids. Layer as needed for a more dramatic look.
    • 0.18 oz.
    • By Jouer; made in the USA.

    Ingredients

Isododecane, Polymethylsilsesquioxane, Behenyl Methacrylate t-Butyl Methacrylate Copolymer, Polysilicone-11 , Calcium Sodium Borosilicate, Calcium Aluminum Borosilicate, Bismuth Oxychloride, Silica, Phenoxyethanol, Tocopheryl Acetate, Ethylhexylglycerin, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Alaria esculenta extract. MAY CONTAIN: +/- Mica (CI 77019), Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Iron Oxides (CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499), Carmine (CI 75470).

The most sublime assets of these shadows are their TEXTURE, FINISH, WEAR TIME and SHADES:

TEXTURE:  In the jar, the shadows are very bouncy and silky smooth...they glide onto the eye with ease, blend well and build to maximum intensity with a single layer.  Because the formula is so creamy, there is no fallout; the shadow comfortably adheres where applied.

FINISH: Each of the shades has a luminous finish that brightens the eye with a satin effect that is glowing without being glittery.  When built up to a second coat, the satin finish visually transforms to a stunning, nearly "wet effect."

WEAR TIME: I am beyond impressed with how well this formula wears.  Once applied it does not budge...no creasing, no migrating, no flaking and no smearing.  My eyes feel comfortable for hours of wear and my sensitive, contact lense-ridden eyes do not experience an ounce of irritation!

    SHADES:
    • Dusk: A mink taupe with warm golden undertones.
    • Moonlight: A soft beige cream with golden champagne undertones.
    • Twilight: A complex charcoal with deep blue and silver undertones.
    • Starlight: A soft, icy pink with cool silver undertones.
    • Galaxy: A neutral medium brown with platinum undertones.
    • Night Sky: A khaki olive green with golden undertones.

Above: Dusk...a must for taupe lovers.
    Above: Moonlight...creamy champagne golden goodness.
Above: Twilight...an extremely wearable medium charcoal with a twist of blue.
Above: Starlight...an icy pale pink for which the browbones beckon.

To demonstrate the wearability of the Jouer Long-Wear Creme Mousse Eyeshadows, I created two eye looks.  Look #1 harnesses the power of warm taupes, browns and creams, using the neutral brown Galaxy, taupy mink Dusk and golden-laced Moonlight.

Above: I first covered the eye lid with Galaxy and followed with Dusk, blended towards the brow bone.  Moonlight was the perfect shade to capture light along the brow bone.  I blended a touch of Dusk along the lower lash line for continuity.

Bottom Line: The Jouer Long-Wear Creme Mousse Eyeshadows are, as aforementioned, utterly stellar.  The flattering hues are endlessly wearable and truly live up to their long-wear moniker.  Highly recommended!

Over the weekend, the second part of my Gucci (currently available at Neiman Marcus and Gucci.com) order arrived (part one can be viewed HERE)...two intensely pigmented eyeshadows and a pale nude lipstick.  This post is intended to be a quick peek, rather than full review...hopefully my initial swatches will be helpful for those of you still contemplating an order!

Magnetic Color Shadow Mono in Oxydus and Iconic Gold: I ordered both shades from Gucci  (currently--through 11/16--shipping and returns are free!) because this rich coppery brown and khaki gold (seemingly two of the most effortlessly wearable tones) were back ordered at Neiman Marcus until 10/22.  I am totally smitten with the rich buttery texture of these shadows...they are pigmented, ultra-reflective and entirely heartstopping.  I will have images of these in action in the next day or two ; )
Aboev: Swatches in direct sunlight...stunning, no?
And now for a quick break from all of this Gucci goodness...some non-beauty-related images for your amusement.  We'll call this, "random snapshots from the weekend..."

Above: Cipria in the "golden hour." It is a creamy peach nude with slightly pink leanings...so lush and lovely.
Back to business...next up, the Luxurious Lipstick in Cipria (in stock at Gucci only as of publish date).  This peachy pink nude is pale but easy to wear, extremely creamy and immensely hydrating.  I have loved combining Whisper (reviewed HERE) and Cipria for a creamy nude pink with gorgeous depth...dedicated images of this shade in action soon.  In the meanwhile, it can been seen on my lips in "Look #2" of my recent Jouer post!  Overall, I have absolutely no regrets about selecting this shade sight (and swatch!) unseen.

Bottom Line: I hope you enjoyed this rapid post and found its swatches helpful should you be on a Gucci Beauty (currently available at Neiman Marcus and Gucci.com) quest yourself.  As mentioned, I will feature closeups and reviews on these products in the coming days but wanted to give you another taste of their beauty since there is limited information and images available online.

Bottom Line: I hope you enjoyed this quick FOTD and would love to hear what makeup products you've been embracing as of late.  Although my official Gucci Beauty (available at Neiman Marcus and Gucci) reviews are still in the works, I can personally attest to the significant pigmentation of the eye shadow and lipstick...very impressed.  Also, the Charlotte Tilbury makeup (available at Net-a-Porter and Nordstrom) is definitely living up to its hype, becoming unmitigated "regulars" in my makeup bag!

By the way, if you live in Southern CA, the official Charlotte Tilbury Make-Up Your Destiny launch will take place at the Nordstrom at the Grove in LA on Friday 10/10 at 11:00 AM (with a chance to see and meet Charlotte!) and festivities will continue in the center of the Grove from Noon-8:00PM on Friday 10/10 and 11:00-8:00PM on Saturday 10/11.

Above: (1) Two of my latest Lipstick Queen lippies...the Silver Screen formula in Come Up (reviewed HERE) and You Kid...so marvelous.
Before I retire for the evening, here are nine points of discussion, thoroughly captured by film and quickly discussed!

    (1) Lipstick Queen (reviewed HERE, HERE and HERE) Creator Poppy King will be making an appearance at Barney's NY in Beverly Hills tomorrow; I am slated to interview her in the afternoon and cannot wait to meet her in person!  Full rundown of my experience in the very near future!

    Above: Skin-saving wonders.
    (2) The early October Southern CA heat has taken a toll on my skin and three products that have worked miracles with my dryness are:

Above: Oil, cream and tint...what else does one's legs need?
Above: The La Prairie Skin Caviar Luxe Eye Lift Cream...glorious on every level.
    (3) I've just started using the La Prairie Skin Caviar Luxe Eye Lift Cream.  This truly opulent formula has been recommended to me time and again and I am LOVING the results thus far...a smooth, dewy, healthy and hydrated orbital area, even when I am at my most exhausted (which has been basically every day this week!).  More on this gem and how I use it in my skincare routine soon.

Above: The bottle of Joy Forever is breathtaking, no?
    (4) After running through a sample of this intoxicating juice, I now have a full bottle of the Jean Patou Joy Forever in my possession.  This sparkling floral instantly brings cheer into my life with a single spray.  Simultaneously classic and progressive, it has significant sillage and lasting power and smells utterly divine.

Above: My handcrafted Quincy Vida by Seth Wegter.
    (5) Thursday 10/9/14 was National Handbag Day (who knew?) and I couldn't help but celebrate by posting an image of my daily purse...this gorgeous creation--the Quincy Vida--by Seth Wegter Bags.  It is just the right size to hold everything one needs (including a plethora of lipsticks) while not being so large as to be tempted to overfill it and break one's back!

Above: SK-II Essential Power Essence and Cream for clear, smooth, glowing skin.
    (6) Kindly meet two new additions to my growing SK-II skincare are the Essential Power Essence and Essential Power Cream.  I use these concentrated formulas day and night to moisturize, tighten and clarify my visage and truly, since using the SK-II line, my skin has never been better.  Full skincare routine breakdown in the works!

Above: The Glam Screen converts the front of your phone into a mirror!
    (7) I've been meaning to mention this genius idea for awhile now...the Glam Screen by Jonathan Cheban instantly converts one's phone into a mirror.  Simply apply the thin film onto the phone and, voila, the reflective surface acts as perfectly functional mirror when the lock button is pressed.  I have used this countless times to covertly touch up my makeup or check my teeth after eating...truly, a brilliant invention.

    Above: The details.
Above: My mirror...the quality and clarity are tremendous.
Above: Swatches of nearly every shade of the freshly released Tom Ford Matte Lipcolor!
    (8) The brand new Tom Ford Matte Lipcolor just arrived at Neiman Marcus this week!  I was able to procure some swatches from the lovely Tom Ford Specialist Reena Levin (312/241-7189) at Neiman Marcus in Chicago and the LE shade, First Time (a peachy pink nude that is lighter than Pink Tease), is on its way to my house as I type this.  I will make sure to properly profile First Time as soon as it arrives. If you are wanting a delightful shopping-for-Tom-Ford-by-phone-experience, I highly recommend giving Reena a call!

Above: Long week, horrendously messy braid...at least my contour and blush (Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze and Glow and Cheek to Chic blush in First Love) are doing their job.
    (9) Finally, as aforementioned, Charlotte Tilbury and her eponymous beauty line will be making her LA debut Nordstrom at the Grove in LA this weekend.  As a huge fan of both her Bronze and Glow(reviewed HERE) and Cheek to Chic Blush in First Love (reviewed HERE), I will be swinging by in the later afternoon tomorrow and cannot wait to explore the wonder of her full range of products in person!  Any LA Beauty Professor readers planning to attend?

    --Shop the Post--

Bottom Line: I hope you enjoyed this latest installment of Office Hours and wish you the loveliest of weekends...looking forward to hearing what's new in your life!

Above: The lastest foundation release from Sisley...the Phyto Teint Expert.
I feel as if I have been swimming in a sea of foundations for the last month and a half...no complaints, mind you...it is a pure delight to be able to try a host of incredible releases.  The next formula of focus is that of the Sisley Phyto Teint Expert (available at Nordstrom, Bloomingdale's, Neiman Marcus, Selfridges and Saks Fifth Avenue).  This longwearing fluid foundation offers medium (buildable to full) coverage and skincare benefits to perfect the complexion for hours on end.

Kindly scroll on for more details, my impressions, swatches of nearly every shade, images of the foundation on my face and the Bottom Line...

Above: The Sisley Phyto Teint Expert purports up to 12 hours of wear.
Here are the official details, courtesy of Neiman Marcus:

Phyto-Teint Expert provides ultra long-lasting, unifying and smoothing coverage combined with the lightness and natural finish of a second-skin foundation. In addition, thanks to the Sisley skincare expertise infused at the heart of the formula, Phyto-Teint Expert enhances and intensely treats the skin for a visibly magnified complexion.

    • Its ultra-sensorial texture provides adjustable medium to high coverage and 12 hour hold.
    • Oil-free and non-comedogenic, Phyto-Teint Expert is suitable for all skin types.
    • Phyto-Teint Expert is available in 8 shades.

    My Impressions:

This foundation really surprised me.  Texturally, the liquid formula goes on smoothly (I used a dampened Beauty Blender) and blends to a near seamless finish that is neither cakey nor obvious.  I would deem the finish a "natural matte" and my skin only gets slightly glowy, even after hours of wear.  This brings me to the wear time...the first time I tried this, it was during a long lecturing day in an uber-warm classroom.  When I caught a glimpse of my face towards the end of the day, I was stunned by how fresh my skin looked...the foundation hadn't budged!  In terms of lasting power, I would say it is on par with my beloved Tom Ford Traceless Perfecting.  Even though it feels rather thin, it offers significant coverage in a single layer.

It does have a light cucumber scent, consistent with other Sisley base products, but my sensitive skin hasn't experienced any irritation.  I noted a bit of "heavy" feeling on my skin by about hour 10, but I don't know of foundation that wouldn't yield that sensation after such a long day of wear!

I haven't used it long enough to credibly speak to its skincare benefits but will continue to experiment with it and weigh back with my experience in a few weeks.

Bottom Line: Sisley Phyto Teint Expert (available at NordstromBloomingdale'sNeiman MarcusSelfridges and Saks Fifth Avenue) is a wonderful addition to the sea of recent foundation releases.  The natural matte finish that takes on a bit of glow as the day goes on is flattering for a wide range of skin types (including combination, oily and mature) and its medium coverage and stalwart lasting power add to its universal appeal.  I recommend giving this luxurious foundation a spin...it may be just the formula you've be in search of!

Current Pinky Nude Lipsticks in My Rotation + Celebrating 7 Years of Marriage!

    $
    0
    0
Above: Some of the pinks, nudes and pinky nudes in my life...Gucci Cipria, Girlactik Naked, Gucci Whisper, Tom Ford Blush Nude, NARS Raquel and Charlotte Tilbury Penelope Pink.
This post features two seemingly unrelated topics: pinky-nude lipsticks that have been bouncing around my purse as of late and my seven year wedding anniversary.  I will do my best to weave an undeniable thread of commonality between the pair with words and images!

Kindly scroll on for images, details and the Bottom Line...

    Above: The usual suspects.
The pinky nude lipsticks in my life are incredible go-to's for rushed mornings and hurried touch ups.  Shades in the pinky nude family are easy to wear, add instant demure and provide a polished look that communicates sophistication without looking like you're trying too hard.  These six are pale enough to convey a "nude" vibe while having enough saturated color to avoid washing out the face...love them, I do!

    1. Charlotte Tilbury Penelope Pink (reviewed HERE): This pinky beige is full coverage and last for hours...definitely more nude than pink.

    2. NARS Audacious Lipstick in Raquel (reviewed HERE): This is, without question, my favorite nude in the Audacious line; it's the quintessential blend of pink, peach and beige and the full coverage, moisturizing wear cannot be beat.

    3. Tom Ford Blush Nude (reviewed HERE): A classic in my collection, this pinky beige is muted and soft, leaving room to pump up the color on other parts of the face (e.g., cheeks and eyes).

    4. Gucci Audacious Color-Intense Lipstick in Whisper (reviewed HERE): Not quite a nude...more of a lilac-tinged pink but it acts as a neutral in terms of wear and purpose...I've been wearing this marvelous shade non-stop.  Also, I combine it with Cipria to create a Gucci-centric nude lip.

    4. Girlactik Le Creme Lipstick in Naked (swatched HERE): A true warm beige nude, this formula is creamy, hydrating and all sorts of gorgeous.

    5. Gucci Luxurious Moisture-Rich Lipstick in Cipria (discussed HERE): This pale pinky beige is soft and sensual and is quite light (though full coverage) on its own.  I adore mixing it with Whisper or wearing it with the Gucci gloss in Breathless (swatched HERE).

Above: The Gucci Whisper + Gucci Cipria lipmix.
These Gucci Cipria +Gucci Whisper pinky nude lip color images were taken in the car on Saturday while my husband, Jethro and I ran errands in our '67 GTO.  Even though we were doing what one might deem to be rather mundane tasks (e.g., the post office, Petco, etc.) we had a lovely afternoon enjoying the drive and simply spending time with eachother.

Above: Off to Petco...Jethro can hardly contain his excitement.
Above: Jethro and Tyler, waiting for me as I run into the post office to pick up a package (!).

Saturday also marked the day before our seven year wedding anniversary.  That's right, on October 12th, 2007, we got married and my, how the time has flown by at light speed! In terms of gifts, neither one of us needed or wanted a single thing, but while at the Grove on Friday (for the Charlotte Tilbury event mentioned HERE...more on the whole evening soon), I ended choosing this Bianca Pratt gold T necklace from Barney's NY as a special way to keep my husband close to my heart.  It's simple, understated and sentimental and I adore it!

    Above: The necklace
Aboev: Ty, Jethro and me this past summer.
I am so thankful for my husband...he is immensely loving, massively understanding and entirely supportive and I feel incredibly blessed to have him in my life.  What a gift from God!

    Above: Before a night out.
Above: In our college years...we've definitely changed, no?

Above: Celebrating seven years of marriage...here's to the rest of our lives!
Bottom Line: I hope your weekend has been marvelous thus far. I have so many posts in the works that I am excited to share in the near future...more (!) foundation, lipstick, event coverage and skincare to discuss!

Oh...and what is YOUR favorite pinky nude lipstick currently?  Do please share!

xoxo and thanks for your loyal readership,

Above: I never tire of Equipment France.
Starting today and running through October 16th at 11:59 PST, Shopbop is having a major sale...25% off site-wide with the code FAMILY25!  When shopping online, I find that I am consistently pleased with two lines: Equipment France and Helmut Lang.  Both designers embrace a clean, minimalist and endlessly classic look that I wear through the workweek and into the weekend.  I consider it my uniform of sorts.  In turn, here are some of my picks for this particular sale...

    1. Equipment Slim Signature Blouse: This soft nude is muted enough to go with everything and can be dressed up  or down, according to one's mood.

Above: Wearing one of my favorite Equipment Signature Blouses with shorts and booties...so versatile.
    2. Equipment Cecile V Neck Cashmere Sweater: I have this sweater in three different colors...soft, light and completely wearable, every girl needs a black cashmere pullover.

    3. Equipment Larkin Dress: Clean and basic, I love Equipment's version of the little black dress...it's cool and casual and entirely work appropriate.  Plus, it has pockets!

Above: I have a veritable rainbow of Equipment in my closet.
    4. Equipment Signature Blouse in Black: I have gotten so much milage from my black Equipment blouse...it is chic and timeless.

Above: Wearing the Helmut Lang Asymmetrical Bra.
    5. Helmut Lang Asymmetrical Bra: This bra is incredible...it is totally comfortable and brings interesting new life to a low cut neckline.  When I first procured mine, I wondered if $90 underpinnings could be justified.  In light of how much use this has received,  I can personally attest to the fact this investment is totally and utterly worth it (erstwhile 10 other less expensive bras sit completely ignored in my lingerie drawer)!

Above: A collection of some of my favorite Helmut Lang pants.
    6. Helmut Lang Reflex Leggings: Sleek, slimming and a wardrobe staple, these legging pants don't lose shape and can be worn with longer and short tops.  Perfection.

    7. Helmut Lang Feather Jersey Drape Shirt: Thin and flowing, this top has the most gorgeous cowl neck for restrained flair.  I adore my long-sleeved version and know this short sleeved option will be equally as popular in my closet!

    8. Helmut Lang Jersey Wide Shoulder Tank: I've been searching for a top in this muted shade of camel (called Brittle in this case) and am mad for silhouettes with high necks and cut off sleeves...simultaneously relaxed and edgy.

Bottom Line: I hope you enjoyed my selections and would love to hear what you choose from the Shopbop sale.  With free 3-day shipping and free returns as well as 25% off (with the code FAMILY25), this promotion only runs until October 16th at 11:59 so I recommend placing your soon  (I'm placing mine tomorrow at lunch) for the optimum chance to secure your size!

While at Barney's NY last week for my Lipstick Queen Poppy King interview (to be posted soon!), I was able to swatch and procure a brand new base product from By Terry...the Terrybly Densiliss Concealer.  I already adore the Densiliss Foundation (swatched + reviewed HERE) and have been actively anticipating the release of the concealer.  Infused with anti-aging and dark-circle banishing ingredients, this serum concealer, which also purports to reduce under eye bags, is luxury cover up at its best.

    • This corrective serum visibly rejuvenates the skin by taking action on all the signs of ageing and fatigue.
    • It serves as the ultimate eye contour treatment, with a concentrated dose of anti-ageing and firming active ingredients.
    • Offering modular coverage, it effectively targets under-eye bags and circles.

by terry terrybly densiliss concealer swatches
Above: The formula is liquid, yet creamy in nature.
    MY THOUGHTS:

This is the first liquid concealer that I have embraced in a very long time!  I generally gravitate towards cream formulas (with Surratt Beauty Surrealiste--reviewed HERE + Cle de Peau--reviewed HERE--amongst my favorites) but definitely see a utility in this more fluid incarnation, especially for the under eye region.  I don't suffer from intense darkness around my eyes, but as my work schedule continues to ramp up and sleep becomes minimal, my need for a veil of correction in the orbital area (to feign a more rested look) becomes apparent.

Applied with a velvet-flocked doe foot wand, this concealer is a creamy liquid...its vicosity prevents it from dripping but it is thinner in texture than a traditional mousse or cream.  The pigmentation is fantastic, providing signficant coverage while still looking natural, and only a few dots along the lower eye area are necessary to banish shadows and fatigue.  It doesn't contain any obvious fragrance (rare for a By Terry product!) and, despite its ability to brighten the orbital zone, doesn't employ the use of shimmer or light reflecting particles to achieve this effect.

Overall, I am really taken with this formula...Shade 04 Medium Peach is light enough to cover darkness and brighten my eyes but dark enough to be used as, I daresay, a foundation touch up.  It blends like a dream and stays put for hours without fading or creasing.  Yet another wondrous product release from By Terry!

    • 4 Medium Peach: Light-medium beige for light-medium skin with neutral undertones...it's peachy and does wonder for darkness under the yes.  **This is my shade of choice!

To complete the look in the images that follow, I couldn't help but use the gorgeous peachy coral Lipstick Queen Silver Screen lipstick (also reviewed HERE) lipstick in See Me.  I plan on profiling all shades of this stunning formula in the very near future (likely to compliment my Poppy King interview) but in the meanwhile, couldn't go without mentioning this gem.  The formula is pigmented, hydrating and slightly shiny...it also comfortably lasts for hours upon hours without fading or migrating.  So major.

Bottom Line: Both the By Terry Terrybly Densiliss Concealer and the Lipstick Queen Silver Screen lip color in See Me are marvelous additions to my routine.  The creamy, dark circle-banishing formula of the concealer is incredible for smoothing and perfecting the under eye region and Lipstick Queen See Me delivers a bit of brightness to my normal nude lip regimen.  Have you tried either?  I wholeheartedly recommend both!

Bottom Line: I hope you enjoyed this FOTD!  I, for one, am looking forward to a few days of travel and (hopefully) a bit of relaxation.  I will be addressing all of your wonderful comments this weekend and have so many posts in the works about which I am thrilled...foundation (three formulas, to be specific!), lip color, skincare and a video, coming your way!

    xx,
